Anything better than Audacity?

Wonder if it is worth to go beyond Audacity given the fact that it's free. Should I pay for something else? Why? Is there anything important not covered by Audacity?

I find that Wavelab (Elements in my case) has the much better GUI, and also better built-in plugins. I used to clean vinyl and tape recordings with Wavelab, and the included de-pops, and de-clicking plugins did a much better job, the ones in Audacity didn't even detect pops and clicks reliably. The biggest issues with Audacity for me is the GUI though, butt ugly, and not very inuitive either.

Thx. I do need an USB eLicenser, yes? I don't that kind of copy protection because all my USBs are already needed elsewhere...chk071 wrote:I find that Wavelab (Elements in my case) has the much better GUI, and also better built-in plugins. Wavelab Elements doesn't need a USB eLicenser, but will also work with software eLicenser. The full version of Wavelab will need a USB eLicenser though.martinjuenke wrote:Thx. Why not Tracktion 5? It's a great full-featured DAW and it's free.
Has full MIDI support and real-time processing, both of which I found painfully missing from Audacity.

I don't know how much cleaning up you need to do but maybe look at iZotope RX? There are different versions depending on how much you want to spend.
Right now there's a bundle with the Elements versions of RX, Neutron and Ozone for $20 more than RX Elements alone.

Personally, I love ocenaudio!

I use Audacity too, but ocenaudio just looks and feels more like a commercial audio editor.
I think the 2 compliment each other well actually.

You don't mention what is missing for you from Audacity
