VST3 plugins on MAC LogicPro necessary?

There are 2 GB VST3 plugins on my hard disk parallel to the plugin AU components.
I work only with LogicPro on my MacBook.
Wonder if I can simply delete these files to recover disk space?
Any guidelines or recommendations?

Just delete, many installers have the option to only install either vst or AU components.martinjuenke wrote:There are 2 GB VST3 plugins on my hard disk parallel to the plugin AU components.

Heavy cleaning going on...
Thanks.
With Native Instruments I'm cautious because I think their Components are "wrapper" of their VST. I opened a ticket...
Arturia and Soundtoys are as well a bit unclear for me. All other dev stuff worked so far...
By the way: Softube support was quick as hell! Cool guys.
Thanks.

Move the contents of /Library/Audio/Plugins/VST and .../VST3 to an external drive. Anything that doesn't work after that, you just move that VST back.
AUs that link to a separate VST image seem to be pretty rare in my experience – a wrapped one will often just have the VST buried inside the Component package (that way, the dev doesn't have to worry about people moving the VSTs into different subfolders).

I think you can use Plogue Bidule AU plugin for wrapping VST3 (and also VST 2.4x) instruments/fx on Mac, but I haven't tried that.

Thank you all.
The picture gets clearer:
All VST3 were redundant and could be deleted without side-effects.
All instrument VST which are integrated into Komplete Kontrol (NI, Arturia, AAS, u-he, SugarBytes, Softube) have to be kept.
All other instrument VST and all FX VST could be deleted without any problem.
Wow, my harddisk has gained heavily space for new audio toys...

Arturia also need the VSTs to stay where they are for their own standalones to work.martinjuenke wrote:Thank you all.

And the standalones seem to be necessary for proper function of the plugins. A bit strange. But so what...aMUSEd wrote:Arturia also need the VSTs to stay where they are for their own standalones to work.martinjuenke wrote:Thank you all.

Steinberg wraps VST3s as far as I know.

That'd be weird considering they're responsible for the plugin format, and the SDK. Where did you read that? Would be surprising for me, if they didn't support it natively.mgw38 wrote:Steinberg wraps VST3s as far as I know.
