Send me the SFZ files and I'll look at them.MarcN58T wrote:OK, I tested the Flamestudios acoustic guitars converted with Awave Studio with sforzando in Logic Pro X. Compared with bigcat1969's FS Kontakt instruments as reference, the reverb tail heard when releasing the key is always at the maximum volume, like the website says and there's no way to adjust them. Perhaps SFZ couldn't support reverb tails and some like. I thought it was more versatile than sf2.
If I am wrong and it's still possible, maybe I send over the SFZ files and see if someone else can fix them.
HELP! Need to convert Flamestudios instruments to SFZ or EXS format!

I have sent you the files via PM. Just another note, when I open some of the converted SFZs in Polyphone (the free sfz editor), the program just hangs. So even if I knew how to edit as bigcat1969 suggested, it seems impossible. I think I may need to borrow a license for Extreme Sample Converter or Awave Studio.PTV wrote:Send me the SFZ files and I'll look at them.MarcN58T wrote:OK, I tested the Flamestudios acoustic guitars converted with Awave Studio with sforzando in Logic Pro X. As far as i remember, anything in giga format can be remake into sfz format.
It just that automatic converter usually sucks when translating a lot-lot of parameters
The best option is edit them manully.
So far, SFZ support in Polyphone is very good but only for opcodes its recognized (opcodes equivalent to the sf2 specs). If you encounter problem when loading sfz into it, then something strange must be in the sfz files.
Just an info, when I help Davy for the SFZ feature in Polyphone, we've done a lot of test for any imagineable sfz formatting, but in the circle of soundfont specs.

Earlier today PTV PMed me and agreed with you that maybe I have to manually convert the files and test them myself. The complex options in the converted SFZ files from Awave makes the editing so hard, it hangs Polyphone. So maybe I have to strip down all the unnecessary settings and reverse engineer the original Gigasample format with recreated SFZs. It's going to take a while, but I'll reference some of the original settings in gigedit.kinwie wrote:As far as i remember, anything in giga format can be remake into sfz format.

Like PTV, I have spare-time and maybe can help you out.
Years ago, when I tried to find a good free bass samples, I've had the flamestudios stuff tested.
But I trash them because so much clipped samples.
They just not good...

Well, to admit, I downloaded Flamestudios guitars because the guitars in Garageband are not good enough. However, after buying Logic Pro X due to GB's limitations when it comes to creating and editing, there are far more guitar varieties to choose from in the EXS24 sampler. But still, having a real branded sample instrument is good, like the Ibanez and Seagull steel string acoustics. They sound somewhat better than Logic's stock instruments.
But the best I could do is to MIDI out the strum patterns in Ample Guitar M Lite running in Mulab (because Logic does not support the feature, a bummer), then import the MIDI into Logic played with stock or Flamestudios instruments, and they still sounded better than programming them myself (I honestly don't know the guitar well), although to be more "authentic", you still need to find guitar fret noise and slides which don't come with any free guitar libraries (FS guitars do have slaps and slide samples, the closest to fret noise, but not really fret noise), except for Ample Guitar M Lite.
Anyway, the purpose is whenever possible, the converted sfz instruments should match the FS Gigasample libraries in terms of features, where sf2 was unable to. The reverb tail volume is an example I hope could be implemented in SFZ where sf2 did not.
I think all we need is the Gigasample libraries, Linuxsampler (or bigcat's Kontakt instruments which sounded good, can run in demo for 15 minutes on Kontakt Player), and the audio extraction program.

What do you mean by several titles? I practically like to have ALL the Flamestudios instruments and presets converted to SFZ for flexibility and public use, where the instrument is a group folder, then there's a bunch of SFZs as presets, then the samples folder to contain all the samples, something like the sf2 version hierarchy as seen in the screenshot.

Example is the Ibanez Steel String Acoustic Guitar (with Fender Reverb). I'd like to have electric guitars in the mix as well.
Then people may just use the SFZ version instead of sf2, with Gigasample library features.

OK, I guess we first start with that, then we see how to include the Fender reverb (and tail samples) into that instrument for SFZ.kinwie wrote:okay, i'll try to look at the Ibanez Steel String Acoustic Guitar

First, about the copyright, I found this in the included license file :
This program is free software: you can redistribute it and/or modify
it under the terms of the GNU General Public License as published by
the Free Software Foundation, either version 3 of the License, or
(at your option) any later version
So it safe and I've just made a test file for the FS Ibanez Ac.Gtr, consist only the first 3 presets/programs and follow the original giga programming.
Here's the sfz test file for preview :
https://www.dropbox.com/s/tjwrss0ubewsi ... t.zip?dl=0
It's only the sfz programs, so you need to put the samples in the "Samples" folder
Please let me know if it works for you or not.
And here's the screenshot of preset #3 :
The giga format of this Ibanez acoustic has 25 programs but before I do the full conversion, I would like to know from others too if this is worth to be converted. And better to follow the original giga programming or add some new feature like legato, more CC controls, etc.
And I have to note that converting these library manually to sfz will be take quite some work and time.
So please be patience.

Wow. I didn't know you were a better SFZ programmer than me, I don't even know how to do SFZs that way.
But one problem. It initially did not work on Logic Pro on Mac in sforzando, because of the backslash in the naming convention on #include (I know you're coming from Windows), so I'm unable to test at the moment until I change it to the forward slash. I don't know if it's sforzando's fault, but the Virtual Playing Orchestra SFZs did work even with the backslash, although I didn't see any #include.
After renaming to Mac folder conventions with the forward slash, the instruments worked fine, even the reverb is more subtle than the Kontakt version, and tweakable. I say great job.
Now if only the naming conventions of the SFZ is cross-platform compatible...

Ohh, thanks to pointing that out. Yeah, the backslash and forward slash both working in windows system. Glad you can have it worked. I'll change them to forward slash then for the compability.MarcN58T wrote: But one problem. And yeah about the reverb samples, I forgot to put the +6dB to the tail samples. But well, it still in the beta/preview works and can be easily added a reverb level control if needed.
Lots of things can be adjusted...

Btw, I really like to hear from other members about this Flamestudios samples.
Is it really worth enough to turn them all into the ARIA SFZ version?
The reason is because there are quite numbers of giga files and each giga has quite lot of presets.
So it definitely will consume some of my time to complete the good conversion.
How many of you will be using this in sforzando?

Well i guess that's what KVR mean for, learning and sharing knowledge,MarcN58T wrote:Wow. I didn't know you were a better SFZ programmer than me, I don't even know how to do SFZs that way.
and trade, sell, buy, etc. etc. etc...
I learn from many great people here, from PLJones, Chad-PA, DavidV himself and others too
ARIA SFZ itself is way-way a very powerful sample format that fully supported by the player, sforzando etc. and I guess its limit is depends on Plogue themselves!
And they've been kind enough to give us that free
