An appropriate qoute for this thread:

"It's a bad tradesman what blames his tools"

Don't know who said it and really don't care if anyone here knows who said it or how it was said for that matter.

The thread title is over the top, don't use any DAW if you want perfection otherwise join the rest of us in making what we got work issues not withstanding.

Post

Nah, people suck
DAWs are simply tools people can use to express some aspect of our suckiness

Post

My fruity DAW does not suck; I suck the juice from it instead and it tastes pretty sweet.

Post

Yeah, they do. Nothing is ever going to be done about it.

What works for me, doesn't for others. What works for others, doesn't work for me.

Complaints o-plenty (except fanbois) and I suspect that in 2025 it will be the same.

Now, back to my crappy host and trying to get things done........

Therin lies your problem. If you want to use shitloads of stuff you have to go to audio unless you have the money to afford a NASA computer. Every DAW works just fine. You just have to be more resourceful if you want miracles to happen.

Meh, it's all Germans and Belgians, great beer, lousy attitudes

No! DAW's do not suck!
The right tool for the right job... Computer, interface, hard drives, software plugins all contribute to the whole. Maybe the OP is just not working with the right combination of tools for his requirements.
There are a squadrhllion of us who don't have a problem with the tools we use because we've either been lucky with the decisions we made or we took a long time to work out what works best - very often through trial and error - and it all works.
I can't work with Cubase but that doesn't mean that Cubase sucks... it just doesn't work for me... there are a lot of great alternatives out there, you just have to go look:)

Not really. In 44100 good PC can handle it easily. However, you should avoid plugins that have very high CPU usage anyway. Be economical. People have released thousands of tracks that only use Sylenth1 ;)

My experience shows that most of buffer usage comes from effects, as they can't be paralleled. Avoid all-in-one multi-FX and convolution / magic algorithms. Use groups and sends / aux.
Nah, people suck

Yes, yes they do in a relative way.

Each and everyone of them has something that works very well and is basic to good workflow, but god forbid the other brands implement it because they have their own special way of doing something.

Having said that, don't let that put you off from making music. Put up with the idiosyncracies and rock on!

All DAWs work amazingly well...for some people.
All DAWs are completely unusable....for some people.

Just like everything else in life really. It's the people that are the problem not the tool.

Answer your question...No. Ableton doesn't suck. I tried all the main ones..protools, cubase, FL, then Ableton last...and that's my only regret in life.

If only Ableton was my FIRST choice ten years ago I wouldn't have wasted so much of my time being an angry person, my knuckles wouldn't be scared, I would have more hair, I would've been happier, more content, would have married and be spoon feeding my first child as we speak, I would've been a successful electronic music producer and not spending my days now playing 'catch up'. . :x Shit, those years have been been flushed down the toilet, thanks to my ignorance. :dog:

Producing electronic with protools is like playing rock n roll with a bloody harp! How could I be so comfortably stupid! You wanna CREATE music not RECORD it. Most of them are purely designed for the latter which is why you have latency issues and all that. The faster you do this the better. Dig it...Ableton.

I actually find Ableton a DAW that is most dificult to use. Using it feels like a rocket science to me.

But think of all the wonderful things a rocket scientist can do, send men to the moon, rover's to mars, shit there's a satellite orbiting Jupiter as we speak.
