Basic by audio damage
Circle 2 by FAW
Twin 2 by fabfilter
Serum by Xfer
I think those are the best for learning because they have a nice GUI which provides good feedback on what is happening.

You can also give Helm (free!) a shot: http://tytel.org/helm/
It has a very clean and graphic interface.

Yes, Sylenth1 rent to own for $10/mo would be a good place to start. Sounds great but isn't a beast like U-He Zebra. As mentioned, Serum can do tons of stuff but is great at showing you visually what's happening with the envelope, LFOs, etc. Also available rent to own, so you won't have to plunk down lots of $ if you don't want to keep these, but every payment you make counts towards the purchase price if you do.
You could also consider something like The Legend for learning the early days of synthesis (it's a Moog emulation) or Repro-1. Both sound fantastic and can be workhorses in many setups.
For free options, get Dexed (a DX7 clone) for FM stuff and Tyrell N6 by u-he.

Check this out: http://www.kvraudio.com/product/tyrell- ... he/details Simple enough, and sounds great.rossco302 wrote:Hi,
I'm looking for some simple synth plugins for protools. Just to learn about the basics, I'm not to concerned about how they sound.
Any advice would be great
cheers
The proposed Sylenth1 is great too, of course. Just pricey, if all you want to do is learn the basics.

I guess you need some kind of wrapper then, since Charlatan is VST only (AFAIK) and Pro Tools does not support VST.Pyrotek45 wrote:charlatan man.

Simple va synth for aax, all in one page and easy? Might try twin 2 or khs one. Serum and all them are tabbed up and got some features that make doing simple shit a little complicated.

Sylenth1. Probably simplest of the top synths out there.
Serum is great learning synth also, but I wouldn't call it "simple" Can get pretty deep with all the options.
