Norton Ghost whatzup ?

I'm using Norton Ghost 2002 and trying to make an
image of my first hard drive and save it to an image file on a partition on my second drive in the same PC.

Problem is Ghost only sees the second drive as a
source (along with the first drive) and only the
floppy drive and the first drive show up as a destination .

The manual suggests that you can save an image
to another drive , am I missing something

I also tried to save the image to my second PC
over my LAN network but Ghost couldn't detect the
second PC's ip

I've had really serious problems with Ghost , recently I tried to image my first drive to my second drive ,
not only would it not show my second drive as a destination but it wouldn't even allow me to get past the main menu, nothing would work
I uninstall/installed it and still the same untill for no reason whatsoever it allowed me to click through to the options after the main menu and voila it worked
This was after many many times (maybe 15 )

No problems at all here with Ghost 2002 doing exactly what you're wanting to do. I've got 3 hard drives and I regularly backup my C drive (OS) to a dedicated partition on my G drive.

Mine (Ghost part of Nortonsystemworks 2004)
works fine now
it just went a bit screwy recently so I thought I would mention it ,
yeah bizarre like ,it kept trying to install itself (eventhough it was installed already and working fine)
again and again , it took me a while to uninstall/reinstall it as it would still try to go to installsheild . I own quite alot of software programs and at this stage I've never had this happen ?

All is good now though ,and what a usefull tool it is .

Ghost cannot see a drive or partition in the drive selection window

Situation:
When you run Ghost.exe or Ghostpe.exe to perform a cloning operation or restore, Ghost does not display one or more disks or partitions in the drive selection windows.

NTFS partitions
When you use Ghost to save an image file directly to a disk or partition, Ghost may not be able to see the partition if it is formatted with NTFS. See the document Storing Ghost image files directly to NTFS partitions.

NOTE: Norton Ghost 2003 can write directly to local NTFS partitions, NTFS partitions that are on a mapped network drive, and NTFS partitions that are on a remote drive and are accessed by means of a peer-to-peer connection such as TCP/IP or LPT.

Storing Ghost image files directly to NTFS partitions

Situation:
You are using Ghost (Ghost.exe or Ghostpe.exe) to create an image of a disk or partition. You want Ghost to save the image file to a partition that has been formatted with NTFS (the Windows NT file system).

Solution:
Ghost's ability to save an image file directly to an NTFS partition depends on your Ghost version:

Symantec Ghost 8.0 and Norton Ghost 2003 can save image files directly to NTFS partitions.
Ghost consumer versions other than Norton Ghost 2003 cannot save image files directly to NTFS partitions. See the section "Alternative storage locations." Note that the version of Ghost included in Norton SystemWorks Professional Edition is a consumer version.
The ability of Ghost corporate versions to save an image file directly to an NTFS partition depends on whether your Ghost version supports that connection type and whether that connection type supports NTFS.

Hi Raven,
I wasn't sure if you had partitioned your C drive and were trying to Ghost to the same drive (I don't think that's possible with 2002) My bad for not reading ypour post properly. My only real complaint about Ghost 2002 is the 2gb file size limit, I dare say I'll get round to upgrading some day.

Also, I haven't used Ghost since I worked in a tech company years back, but even if you're given the option to run it from within Windows, wouldn't it be a bit more reliable to use the DOS boot method?
