It seems weird that all the people who had problems Ive seen, were demoing it. And all the purchasers have had no problems? Ive yet to hear of someone leaving sonar because of these problems.. only people not buying it because of.

Is the demo severly bugged maybe!?!
I don't think it's a question of system specs - I think it depends on how hard you push it... :?

Well I've used a number of different systems. Now I'm using a 2.8 Prescott on ASUS board. I just finished a 3.6 that I'm testing now. I use Raptor drives...Intel chipset.

My projects consist these days of all virtual instruments and almost all virtual effects. You name it...it's been in a project at one point or another. My own projects generally consist of 24-32 tracks, sometimes more and sometimes less. I record at 24 bit 44.1 usually. Occassionally at 96k. I use a combination of loops, one shots, midi tracks, and linear tracks. I use the big hefty instruments like the Arturia stuff, etc. I also use Mackie controls and a UAD1 card. It's not perfect...(i'm no idiot), but niether has anything else been for me. I find more similarities than differences to be honest these days.

I contend that none of the mature apps should just crash at random and not be able to complete a large complex arrangement. I've never used the SOnar demo, so maybe there is something to what youare suggesting there. Definitely wierd though huh?

So you are suggesting that I don't push it very hard? That all people who have a good experience with Sonar are just "light" users that play around with small projects? I hope not, because if so, you are dead wrong. Maybe you have as well, but I've been using this stuff for a right long while...back since the very first sequencers. I know what pushing a system is and believe me, if I couldn't push Sonar to do relatively complex projects I would toss it. For the record, I used to HATE Pro Audio and I wasn't a Sonar user until fairly recently so I'm not one of those people that just blindly defends their purchases or choices. Music has always been my life and there's no way I'd use a substandard tool to get it done.

Whoa lorez, this isnt a personal attack on you. We're talking about software.

Relax. It's easy to get all flustered when you identify yourself with the software you use, but there's no need for it.

No one said anythign directed at you, or insinuated anything. Let's keep the discussion happy :)

Ah see lorez, I dont use ANY virtual instruments in my music. I just record. all audio in, and heavy wav editing....

That could certainly be part of the difference in experience.

I suppose so, but I do play keys, guitar, bass, and do vocals so I do use lots of audio tracks. I'll admit right away that Smplitude's editing is more full featured than Sonar's. In fact it is more full featured than just about anything out there IMHO.

I'm not sure what you are referring to? I didn't take anything as a personal attack and I definitely don't identify myself with anything written in binary. ;-) I was just trying to give an idea of the level of experience I've had with applications of this nature so that we knew what level we are talking on. Sometimes it's easy to dismiss things becaseu there are plenty of people out there who do basic little prjects and never push the machine they are using. Sorry if it seemed otherwise or if I sounded defensive. Just wanted to make sure we ere all on the same page. It's hard to get ideas across in text sometimes. 8)

my typical 'big'-projects have about 10 channels with audio-recordings, then about 3-4 audio-loop-tracks
(Sonar takes them from ram) then about 10 vsti/dxi tracks. On most of the tracks there are about 3-4 automation curves. Then there are about 20fx.

What you're doing seems to be quite similar, LoRez
- I'm wondering what could cause the difference. :?

Seemed like you felt by saying sonar was in some way inferior, the music you make with it must be as well.

of course no one intended that meaning at all.

But that's where I thought you started feeling personal about it....

What's it like on the sonar forum? People often posting bugs there or just chatting?

and i mean what latency you are using constantly.
Well I run at various latencies depending on what I'nm doing so there is no constant latency. When tracking I run somewhere between 2-6ms. When mixing, depending on what instruments and effects I have loaded, I will raise the latency to as much as 20ms. This of course depends on how fast the machine I'm using at the time is. With Sonar I have used RME Hammerfall 9636 (ASIO), Delta 1010 (WDM), and Echo Mona (WDM) (as well as others). I also use an Echo Indigo and US-224 on my laptop. I generally don't use the Hammerfall with Sonar anymore because of the lack of WDM drivers.

Oh I see. I hesitated about saying that for fear of that reaction. I only meant that this stuff is important to me and I'm not a "casual" user. Sorry if it seemed defensive as it was in no way meant to be. Thanks for pointing this out in a kind way and trying to keep it all civil.

I dont see why you need to raise the latency so much.

There's no way I could stand mixing with such a latency, that would drive me nuts! Hum...

Anxious to see if there's any breakthroughs in v4
