Oh man, now I wish there was a genre called "spytrance."kokotte wrote:it could be more constructive to post a sound, with/without fx, who is hard to archive with Dune2, perhaps in the sound design forum, and try to replicate it with dune, and after we could speak : a midi file with the audio file, dry/ wet made with x synth. . a little description or some screen shot (for make the process quick) and post the result here, participants give their feedback... If some kvrist are ready, i'm in. ( personaly, i don't care about spytrance and i don't care if dune is the ultimate tool, but i care about learning new things, and that's could be a great oportunity)
But you're onto something. Trying to replicate sounds from one synth with another, often reveals characteristics of both synths that may be overlooked otherwise. I'm thinking about getting either a Pro-2 or a Prophet 12 for my studio and I've been going through tutorials on those instruments with other software and hardware synths. On some things I can get very close, or even do better. In other things, I can't even come close. The equation I do in my head is, does the cost of a synth justify having the features or characteristics of that synth? I suspect I'll end up with a Pro-2 before the year is out.

Not that i want to stop this war here but just in case......
Here is another demo for the different if you use the "low cpu" mode or switch to "audio rate".
Again, the same sound, the same midi note just held. The second one is the one with audio rate enabled. Not a specific sound here, just a weird thing (which i like to do as FX and stuff).
One OSC, no FX.

Well, I might as well get in on the act too. Made with no external processing. Just the raw sounds. 8th best selling library, for whatever that's worth.

Feel free to flame away cause I'm gonna go play some No Man's Sky.

This is the kind of thing I use Dune for, as well. I think that Dune gets an unfair reputation based on it's presets and patch libraries available for it. Someone, I forgot who, mentioned that it was the wavetable synth that did audio rate modulation very good, especially on filter cutoff. I remember checking out some tracks on SoundCloud before I downloaded the demo... and, well, let's just say they're not my cup'a.
(in related things, SoundCloud compression does horrible things to some kinds of sounds when they're in isolation, especially really harmonically rich sounds like you'd get from filter FM. Sounds like you're strangling a starling in the background)

Anyway, eventually I picked up the demo and found that it did indeed to audio rate mod stuff very well (if you enable it, learned that lesson!) If you start loading it up with your own wavetables, it can even do some PPG/Waldorfish kinds of sounds.

If you use the on board distortions right, it can sound nice and warm even when overdriven.

agree with you Zerocrossing, and people often forget about multithreading engine, how many wt, fm, va, with audiorate mod and unison on all this mode, do it ?
( Recursive one, i would love to ears some audio exemple about the famous spytrance sound, not for baching it, just for learn and understand)
before making my own wt, i was thinking: dune 2 can't make some wooble , growl, like eg, serum, but i was wrong, ok, dune 2 doesn' have phase mod between osc( Mark made a wt for that but, it's not what i want to do ) or no phase distortion but dune is really capable. after that, i will never compare the legend, with dune2, their goals are different....

Well... everyone is putting up there patches... Im not as gifted. But I can put together a quick little dodad for ya.
All Dune 2 including the drums. 9 instances of Dune (I was really holding back. This was using a 32 bit host and CPU is about 15-20%). Enjoy!
