what is the best guitar vst instrument for metal sound ?

Zircon, What is in the1.1 update?
danbroad, I've had trouble using string studio and gs-1 through
amp sims.I turn all efx off and still get either a clunk or a weird
harmonic when releasing the key.I've tried changing the various parameters.
idfpower, electri6ity, Vmetal, and shreddage2 come with the kontakt player.

So far the only thing that sounds remotely close to a real guitar's sound is IMO Rob Papen's RG.

Yes! RG is good.

I also got some good results with a free plugin called "Spicy Guitar". Just run that through something like Amplitube and you can get some very real sounding guitar.

For realistic guitars, it's not so much the sound as knowing how a guitarist plays, no quantise for that picked string feel, knowing when to let off a note to allow another note on the same string to sound. Orange tree guitars has powerful scripting to do just that for you, though.

People often tell me my synth playing sounds just as good as a guitar (they mean I'm expressing the same emotions) but not the same. I think it's easier to just learn to play expressively (well) and not try to emulate the guitar - it's impossible anyway imo. Better to learn to play expressively and use the synth to its advantage. When I do wide but accurate pitch bending and use a pedal to change the tone dramatically using sync sweep, etc., I can have almost as much control over nuance as a guitarist...and that's as good as it gets on a synth. Learn to change and control the sound in a nuanced way, and get really good at bending pitch, etc. Forget "sounding like a guitar." Just practice, and play really well.

4 years later - what is the 2017 choice for a decent guitar, providing a lot of easy/good to use articulations, sounding OK enough to have fun with it, not too heavy on CPU/RAM and last but not least at a reasonable price (Single or Bundle)?

Three body tech just came out with heavier 7 strings. Seems to be the same concept as shreddage or real8

The two things i find interesting (and unique) about it

1) it includes a library of midi riffs (which presumably are more than just straight midi notes, but includes the key switches and articulations)

2) it was endorsed by jordan ruddess

I'm curious what Jordan found so special about this vs. The other similar products

I like the idea of a midi library. That's definitely a leg up on the competition

As an aside i wish toontrack would get in this market. For a company that started out as a metal midi drum company and now does EZ keys and guitar effects..it would seem a virtual guitar is the next logical step for them.

I am strongly considering the heaver7strings product, but still not sure why it is better than real8 or shreddage, both of which I have

Heavier 7 Strings is really impressive.. not only the guitar samples, but the built in effects as well.

A little pricey, even at the sales price IMO. Though, if it were $100.. I'd seriously consider it.

Forgot about that possibilty of modo.

I think modo bass has a quality trillian doesn't, so i guess it (maybe stands to reason) that a modelled guitar would be equally as awesome.

No other modelled guitars have impressed me yet. Even the AAS modelled guitars haven't blown me away (especially for heavy rhythm and lead), so I've stuck with sample libraries.

I'd love if spectrasonics came out with a Guitarscape!

But modo guitar is a more likely option i guess!

It uses physical modeling synthesis to produce the sound, and most importantly it sounds so real.

The guitar side will sound just as good, unless I'm missing some kind of limitation of modal synthesis, but if they can do this for bass guitars, I'm sure they can handle electric guitars...after all, it's just higher pitched strings, right? There can't be more to it than that?
