I've got some weird stuff happening in just one of my Windows 2000 profiles. I'll try and explain and I've got some screenshots (of shite quality) to help explain as well.
Basically, in only one of my profiles, the text in the title bar of windows disappears (see here). Also, the text in the active window down on the Start bar also disappears (see here). This strange behaviour comes and goes, sometimes even within the same session. Occasionally, all the text in Windows dialog boxes will also disappear, leaving a blank box and rectangles around where the buttons are (but no text on the buttons either). Unfortunately, I haven't captured a screenshot of this yet.
Has anyone experienced this sort of thing before, or even heard of it? I had this happen once ages ago and in the end the only way I could fix it was to reinstall. I want to avoid doing that again. It's a pain in the arse, and I don't want to have to keep downloading service packs (and don't get me started on f**king service packs - 3 hours to download 27 meg of service pack 4 that keeps disconnecting at around 18 meg and restarting at 20? Is it too much to ask that some of these packs are broken down to be more dial-up friendly? Well, is it? Bastards.)
Any help/suggestions/ideas on this one would be greatly appreciated. Even troubleshooting suggestions would be good at this stage. It's

what is different about the particular profile you are using ??? is it local or roaming ???
you could delete that profile and then remake it.
what has changed recently ??? did you add software or hardware????
do you have the latest video drivers???
checked for virii & spyware ???
do you have the latest bios ???
i noticed you have some type of registry file on your desktop. right click-edit.. do any of the entries reference title or title bars ???
This is strange though- I would suspect something going on with the registry becuse everything else looks pretty normal. There are lots of title entries in the registry and i have no clue which one specifically controls title bars
If this is all it does, you could just live with it
you could delete that profile and then remake it.

I have never updated the bios. I'm not game to flash it and frankly, have never seen the need. As it is only affecting the one profile, I see this as an OS problem, not related to bios
That's a registry entry provided by Big Tick to boost the output of Angelina. It's been sitting there for quite a while now. It's unrelated to the problem but it is time I moved it somwhere.
I would be prepared to live with it if the screwy dialog box text disappearing act didn't rear it's ugly head from time to time. I hate clicking on "unknown" boxes.
I'll have to try a registry repair, maybe.

All profiles on my machine are local. The screwy account is a Poweruser account that I use for day to day stuff like Word documents, surfing the net etc. I also have an admin account I use for "admin" stuff (installing software, general system housekeeping etc), another admin account I use purely for music (helps to have a separate desktop and some programs just want admin access) and my wife has her own Poweruser account so when she uses my system she has her own shortcuts etc. Her Poweruser account has yet to display behaviour like this.Bigg John wrote:what is different about the particular profile you are using ??? is it local or roaming ???
I'd prefer not to. This is my day to day account and it would be a huge PITA to delete it and start over.you could delete that profile and then remake it.
