I had to reinstall Windows 7 last week. I'm in the process of getting my system up and running again from scratch. After installing a couple of AAS plug-ins (which were purchased directly from Applied Acoustic Systems), I noticed that Cakewalk Folders were created at the following locations:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk\VstPlugins\Lounge Lizard EP-4
C:\Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk\VstPlugins\Strum GS-2

C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\VstPlugins\Lounge Lizard EP-4
C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\VstPlugins\Strum GS-2

I have not yet installed any of my Cakewalk Plug-ins, so I'm wondering if Cakewalk now owns AAS.

This is not a computer setup question, so I assume the 'everything else' section of kvr is the correct place to ask. Thanks ...

Cakewalk invented "VST" technology... or own it at least, sometimes things want to create that folder as the default location.

Don't you mean Steinberg? I though Cakewalk was more in the DXi camp back in the days.

Al, have you installed Sonar before perhaps? It might have set/changed the default VST location in the registry perhaps.

I have not installed Cakewalk products. I can confirm that AAS creates Cakewalk folders and puts its plugins there. It also puts them in several other folders, including AAS, Steinberg, and the folder I've actually specified. They're overdoing it a bit, that's all.

Had to double-check. I use Ableton Live 9 Suite with a custom VST Plug-in Folder full of short-cuts. My links do actually point to Applied Acoustics Systems\VST Plug-ins\Etc

Do Cakewalk own AAS?
