Posers go away, even diharianna covets him. You're quantized beat sucks, your autotune is lame. This is a real "playa"

:hihi:

Love Nuno!

Cool comments by the humble and very talented Brian May, great guitar solo by the Extreme fella, and also a very lifeless and disappointing audience (surely some of them are fans so why no excitement?).

Best thing about Brian of course is he loves badgers.
(Even looks a bit like one).

I, for one, welcome our badger overlords.

Yeah, it's alright. Too busy for my tastes really. I much prefer the phrasing in this. I haven't heard it played well in any live video. Nor live for that matter, but, I've only seen them once and they were WAY past their prime.

The difference is the solo in Get the Funk Out fits the song much better than the one in Aqualung. The structure of GtFO points to the solo so much they can keep delaying its intro until it finally arrives (making it an ideal live track). With Aqualung it's simply acting as a link between two sections and, to my mind, doesn't really work all that well in context - to justify the feeling of washing away in the section that follows, the music needs to lose control more. It feels more like "better have a solo here or something so we can get some kind of a crescendo".

The difference, aqualung solo = barely breaking out of a pentatonic jam, solo could be played by any competent guitarist and certainly not fitting the songs melody.

GTFO Solo ventures thru blues, funk, pentatonic and classical and is bespoke and sympathetic to the track.

And I'm not a "fan" of either band.

We can agree to disagree. I think that the flow of Aqualung is marvelous and GTFO is, IMHO, just bad funk. In fact, I would argue that introducing the solo whenever you wish is just a feature of so much bad "endless jam" music. I prefer the structure and style shift in aqualung.

Of course, I've heard aqualung hundreds of times since I was a kid, I'm pretty sure that's the first time I've heard GTFO, certainly the first time that I can remember hearing it. Without this conversation, I'd probably forget that I ever heard it.

Also, I'm not at all impressed with "difficult to play," per se, No doubt that sometimes makes a solo better, but sometimes it just makes it difficult.

Look, I'm sure that it's a great solo, I wouldn't pretend to argue with Brian May, but I'm just saying that, for me, it's rather forgettable and it's forgettable for precisely the reasons some of you are saying that it's great.

also awesome....

Pity he didn't discuss Lil Wayne.

That s*it sounds like it's coming directly out of his ass (and it is).

This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.

I guess I join the wrong forum :dog:

A good guitar solo is one that makes sense within the context of the rest of the song. Applies to other instruments as well.
My solo projects:
Hekkräiser (experimental) | MFG38 (electronic/soundtrack) | The Santtu Pesonen Project (metal/prog)
