My two jazz boxes (now only one) were $300 each

They are the finest sub $2000 jazz guitars I've ever played.... No seriously. (to be honest I haven't tried the new D'angelico's) Had to drop the 17 inch (floating mini humbucker) Kept the Gold 16. I'm swapping the humbuckers for Charlie Christians.

I'm tempted to pick up this Raines for 300+ Shipping

But I want to buy one of his jazz boxes first.
What brand are these archtops (can't read it on the headstock), and where did you get them?

The brand is Guitar Research... Not affiliated with Schecter.
Sam Ash has many "inhouse" brands They did a promo for jazz guitars and selected Eddie Durham as he was the actual first recorded electric guitar (slightly afterwards charlie christian recorded with Benny Goodman and history was made) It would have been Eddie Durham's 100th birthday (2005) They had a list price of $1200, didn't sell well and prolly were sold for around $900. I got both of mine used on ebay 300 each.

Here's a sampling of the JX16 model

Sam Ash has another brand Carlo Robelli, The 17inch Robelli with floating pup is identical to the JX17

These have ..thinner necks. Not super thin very comfortable.
Very interesting - thanks!

Not to hog, but again, the Chapman, really interesting..........

On one hand, it's solid as a rock. Feels good, isn't crappy in any way, seems like a solid guitar. But tough to get a fix on the price (I should just ask him, pretty sure he's respond) and the trem is weird. It's a full-fledged unit, but it's "fixed" which is strange to me.

Apparently it's "mahogany" which is killer. Love the reverse headstocks, neck feels really good.

On one hand it's like " f**k it, who cares? " and on the other it's like "well, there are some cool things........"

Yes, ML-1's seem to have a wide range of prices, depending on the specific model. I wouldn't be surprised if a Korean model like this has a higher price than one made elsewhere, at least that's how ESP does it.

I guess the bridge is laying flat against the body so that you're only able to pitch down or is it actually blocked from within the cavity?

The somewhere else is Indonesia.

I find it funny that a few years back Chappers and the Captain where checking out some fender guitars one from the US and one from Indonesia. Chappers was quick to point out flaws in the neck which cause fret buzz and head stock rattle on the Indonesian Squier. As well as other faults.

It's really hard to tell. CLEARLY, it has the trem cavity, blah blah. I'm not "sold" on it enough to ask if it comes with an arm, but I remember a vid with him saying one was "blocked" which I'm guessing this is it.

Played it again today, it's pretty f...ing cool. But I think the price is way too high. Really hard to gauge what the selling price was of this, I haven't found anything yet (similar, but not this one)

You never know with GC. Sometimes they pay CRAZY amounts.....plus or minus

I imagine it's a push down only affair. If it has locking tuners, that's actually a pretty cool way to go.

There's a new one on eBay for $400 or best offer:

Remember way back when I suggested folks find a Local Luthier to build their guitars for them.....

Design your guitar and have them build it to your specs. .....So long as you have the money

Those are nice looking.

apparently at 21 plus my daughter has decided that guitar nor bass is for her. So now I have a Squire Hello Kitty and an ibby bass (very low end but it's ok). I think I'll put my Duncan Invader in the Hello Kitty :tu:

That sounds really cool. Hello kitty invader......more metal that you can handle.

Post

seriously, putting the invader in a hello kitty sounds like a great idea. if memory serves, there's a cat named 'tone fiend' on youtube who did something like that. it was awesome.

on those chapmans, i love rob's blue 'tele'. one thing i've noticed though... it seems like none of the chapman guitars 'do' P90s...

Post

You're right afaict. I think I've given up on that one, I'll hold out (plus I'm not in my happy place financially right now :( )

Post

I'm so far in the other direction sound wise. I want to put either Charlie Christians into my Jazz Box or Lace Dually Blue/Gold.

Sadly my finances will be directed at something else for the next three months.
