There is a gallery event in Portland, Oregon at the end of next month called "See Beyond the Music", featuring artwork from many well-known underground musicians (and some, like myself, are not so known! ). There is also a coniciding 10" acetate release featuring music from myself, Edward Ka-Spel (of Legendary Pink Dots), Romulus/Remus and Armchair Migraine Journey. These collectors' acetates are EXTREMELY limited in number (and really, really heavy!), and will sell out very quickly. Learn more about acetate records here: http://www.blrrecords.com/lacetate.php

Here's what the label says about the event:
What: See Beyond the Music
When: Sept. 30th - Oct. 27th at 1829 NE Alberta St. #11, Portland, Oregon. PH 503.827.4142 Opening Reception Sept. 30 6PM - 10PM
Who: Optic Nerve Arts, Jackpot Records, Beta-lactam Ring Records

We will have on display both new artwork (available for sale) and a few select label releases. There will also be a limited gallery 10" acetate with new tracks from Edward Ka-Spel, Romulus/Remus, Christus and the Cosmonaughts and Armchair Migraine Journey. 'See Beyond the Music' art exhibit:

Frans de Waard (Beequeen, Shifts)
Peat Bog (Earthmonkey, Nurse With Wound)
Matt Waldron (irr.app.(ext.))

Chris McBeth (Beta-lactam Ring owner, worker ant, record pimp)
Our track is a psychedelic progressive track...picture Pink Floyd colliding with Faust and Heldon. I used my voice, my big modular, Kyma treatments, Moog Rogue, Nord G2, Hammond, slide guitar, K5000, and my lovely new Microwave XTk (thanks, Seamonkey!). Our own Har played some wicked guitar and Chapman Stick, Ant Graham (Noise 626) played acoustic guitar, and dear ol' vurt and Endmusik also lent a hand. Recorded in Nuendo 2 and Sonar 3. Great fun!

This marks one of many upcoming Christus and the Cosmonaughts goodies that are coming from BLR in the next couple of months, so keep your ears and eyes open...(and jdg, I expect you to drop into the gallery, being so close and all...)

I don't think I can get the time to go myself...but feel free to lick my painting if you do go (and give the label owner a copy of your disc, wouldya?). :-o Don't worrry, I paint with non-toxic acrylic.

This is the first painting I have done since my hand surgery one year ago...it has taken some time and it hurts, but I am getting there...

Well, the hand will never be the same. I have had to re-learn to type, to write, to play (still tough) and am finally beginning to get somewhere with my art again. Needless to say, my style changed a bit, but it is still similar. No more ultra-detailed cross hatching...less rigidly controlled lines. But I am quite happy with how it is coming.

And I aint kidding. Give Chris a copy of the CD...I think he might dig it!

Well, this particular label really caters to record collectors. There are a lot of unlimited CD and traditional vinyl releases on it, too, but BLR also likes to put out extremeley limited runs for collectors. It's one of the reasons I signed up with them. I have been an avid vinyl collector for decades, and I really enjoy limited editions with hand printed or hand made covers, that kind of thing (anyone remember those Zoviet France records with the asphalt and stuff?). Acetate discs have proven quite popular with collectors. Maybe it's the fact that an acetate is one of the very first generations of a record, even before the test pressings...

Prog: (and anyone else), if you do pony up the rather substantial cost of the acetate, I can send you the actual wav or CD of our tune...
