I guess everyone once had heard of him - a household name. Definitely took his music to a wide audience.

Great musician, original member of the "wrecking crew", played e.g. in the Pet Sounds, made succesful solo career. Some years ago saw very touching documentary of his last tour as he struggles with Alzheimer's disease.aMUSEd wrote:Another great one lost:

Agree that "Wichita" is one of the great songs. R.I.P.

A great loss, made some classic songs, one track on his "Ghost On The Canvas" album stands out right now, " A Better Place"

Played a mean geetar in the Wrecking Crew on a zillion hits in the LA studio scene - Elvis, The Monkees etc etc. Toured with the Beach Boys playing guitar and singing Brian's parts after he spun out of the band.

master plays...
BTW, if I remember correctly, Campbell played in record the "Wichita" solo with Carol Kayes 8-string bass. CK played, of course, the bass.

Yeah, almost got that, it wasn't the 8-string, but Kaye's DanElectro six-string bass.aMUSEd wrote:http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-40861326GaryG wrote:So true, such a simple lyric but delivered with such yearning. Master piece.aMUSEd wrote:one of the best songs ever

I got to hear Wichita Lineman via BEF's Music of Quality and Distinction, which is quite faithful to the original. Such a top tune.
RIP Glen Campbell.
