I read that they have 50 days worth of operating capital with no White Knight on the horizon. Their deal with Twitter fell-through, then their deal with Spotify . . .
Not sure what I should do with the 35 tunes I have sitting there that I don't want to just disappear. What other hosting site do you recommend ?
peace

Take a look at this:https://hearthis.at
Otherwise I think that Bandcamp and YouTube is the best alternative. Even though in my experience there is not as much feedback as on SoundCloud. At least not for me.
But I still have hope that SoundCloud survives. They have been declared over and out many times in the past years but they are still here

There's this unconfirmed rumour that they have sold a majority of their shares:
https://datatransmission.co/news/soundc ... 0-million/
With a rebate, if the rumour is true.
I wonder what that would mean to how it is run...
Maybe they'll bring classic back?
One can hope

+1. An unashamed (old) Soundcloud ripoff. And that's a real good thing.sbj wrote:Take a look at this:https://hearthis.at
Unlimited space for your tracks but bear in mind that a free account allows "only" 10000 plays.

I'm guessing Bandcamp still isn't so popular as to be the "buying platform of choice" for many people yet. Spotify and iTunes are pretty much the two platforms of choice to my understanding - for what reason, I can only speculate, since I've never used either.Vortifex wrote:I'm quite surprised at the low amount of sales on Bandcamp for even relatively well known artists. For example, Com Truise's latest album has sold 588 copies on Bandcamp so far. I know synthwave is a pretty niche genre, but still. Seems kind of low to me. Not Bandcamp's fault, just surprised at how few people are willing to pay for downloads I suppose.
Now Bandcamp, on the other hand, I've used very actively since discovering it back in 2012, and next to Google Play, it's the only platform I use to buy music. Even if an artist/band offers a free download of their work, I'll still happily throw a dollar their way if I deem said work of high enough quality to earn my money - which, admittedly, most of them do.
My solo projects:
Hekkräiser (experimental) | MFG38 (electronic/soundtrack) | The Santtu Pesonen Project (metal/prog)

There's also https://octave.is/ (Chris Randall from Audio Damage is involved). Not free ( & not as cheap as Soundcloud), @ $20 per month.

Hmm.. the guy with the worst customer support in the history of the universe? Doesn't bode well lolmcnelson wrote:There's also https://octave.is/ (Chris Randall from Audio Damage is involved). Not free ( & not as cheap as Soundcloud), @ $20 per month.

It reads like CR wrote the feature descriptions.do_androids_dream wrote:Hmm.. the guy with the worst customer support in the history of the universe? But, it is exactly what I wanted SoundCloud to be.
I wish there were more pricing options available, but at the same time, maybe this is the pricing model needed to keep this type of service open without constant threat of closing shop, restructuring of the business model and then the worry of how that will affect me.
Maybe more competing options will come, but if not, then that might help determine if that $20 a month, or $200 a year makes sense.
But please no more social network stuff. Too many platforms just means too much time taken from getting shit done. I still don't like social networking but until the next generations learn to stop posting every moment of their lives online I accept it as necessary... for now.
