I need some good mic pre for my mic(AT3035)
I don't want expensive mic pre.

my budget is about US $650 and
focusrite's voicemaster pro looks perfect.
I only need mic pre for vocal so.. voicemater pro seems
like good choice but
how good is it?

if anybody is using it, can you tell me how it sounds?

I have one...though I'll admit that it isn't used much

I've had one for a little over a year and I've found it pretty useful, especially compared to the previous VoiceMaster. I don't have much else to compare it to since I'm still pretty new to this, but just about every feature has come in handy one time or another, especially the expander, compressor and the vintage harmonics section which is nice for brightening background vocals and sometimes lead vocals.

I'd check out some other channel strips before you commit to the Focusrite though.

I have a voicemaster and I find it's great. I've watched top producer/engineers go to this preamp over much more expensive ones. I did a blindfold-test between the voicemaster and the high-end focusrite (ISA430) and found that the voicemaster had a slightly warmer sound. All considered its a great value for the money.

The Deesser is very nice but I tend to avoid the other stuff on it as you can get more drastic with plugins and its best not to commit bad compression or saturation..

I'd put the voicemaster at the top of the list of affordable mic pre's. If you were to spend more, I'd suggest Avalon, API, Neve, and maybe TubeTech as all make great preamps but all cost considerably more money.

I used the original voicemaster quite a lot at the previous studio i worked in... All in all, i never really got to like it, not what it did to the sound. Id suggest cheking it out against other gear first.

i like it. Can be a tad aggressive sounding and the compressor's a bit shite but good a pre and the vintage harmonics actually work quite well. I thought they'd be a bit of a gimmick.
