when I'm recording vocals. They turn out to have a lot of static. can you make some suggestions for me in terms of which mic I should use and how I should use it to record vocals directly to my computer?

I'm no expert at this but, check the mic cable and any adapters you might have attached to it. I think one way to check that is to move the cabling and the plug around a little and if it crackes and such that your problem. But you may be describing something else give a few more details if you can

It sounds like you're not using a mic pre-amp. If you're not using it, buying a cheap mic pre will solve the problem.

Are you sure it's static?

I was getting a very "staticky" sound recording guitar recently and then noticed that my latency was set way too low. When I raised it the sound cleared up.
