Any plugin that resizes its window (Reaktor, Vanguard) didn't work - the wrapped window stayed at the original size. The wrapper failed to read preset lists from several vsts. I don't remember which at the time. Several synths, Rhino, for instance, occasionally reported random errors when scanned by the wrapper utility, even though I've never had any trouble with it in any other host.

Some of these problems may have been resolved by now.

Well, that's what Live, Tracktion and XT do and they start up just as fast as Sonar on my machine so it makes me feel a little less happy about having to manually run the wrapper utility all the time for Sonar when a $25 host does a better job.

It is sometimes useful to see them overlaid like that but editing them that way sucks and toggling envelopes on and off all the time just to work with them is a total workflow killer for me.

Live 4 is way, way ahead of everybody else in this department, although Energy XT is looking better and better.

He said workflow......

I thouight i was going to see a few pages without that term mentioned.

Oh well, on with the discussion. :P

Read the S4 site, watched the S4 movie, read this thread, ordered the S4PE upgrade, nothing but debt. :help:

Anybody else get their email from Cakewalk yet? Reading mine now...

You know that's MSRP right, there's no way it's really going to sell for that much...
Remember how Sonar 3 PE was like $719, but it was really $499..

Yeh, same thing :)

By the way looks great! 8)

Not sure whether to stay with Studio Edition or go up to Producer Edition...hmmm.

I think they are. Vanguard works fine for me as does Rhino. I only have Reaktor Session and haven't used it in awhile so I can't comment on that. However, Reaktor has a DXi as well. Were you using the wrapper that comes with the demo? I think it comes with the demo anyway...not sure.

Yeah but these programs don't support DX plugins, so it's a bit different environment. I'm not trying to convince you of anything mind you. Definitely not trying to force you to like/use Sonar. If Live or Traktion work better then by all means...nothing wrong with these programs at all depending on what features you need and how you like to work.

Live 4 takes 2 to 4 times longer to start up on my system than Sonar 3.1.1. Cubase SX2 can take 5 to 10 (whoa!) times longer to start up than Sonar 3.

I much prefer manual scans although it would be nice to be able to do a manual scan from within Sonar without having to restart it afterwards to reflect the changes.
