Every sample library that I have has raw oscillator samples and sync waveforms. Virtually every Kontakt library in existence uses almost exactly the same idea. Take samples of oscillators and pass them through the sampler's filters.
It seems you heard the first part that you quoted, and then your over-riding desire for self-aggrandizement kicked in and the rest was heard/dismissed through that filter.
It seems that you're both wrong AND ignorant about sample libraries. I watched the whole thing, regrettably. He made several more ignorant claims which I've already commented on.

Then the other dude commented on how orange the distortion is. Seriously, if you watched that and thought that you were seeing some intelligent commentary, then I have a bridge to sell you.

The only thing good that came out of that was that I know never to watch sonic talk, or whatever it's called, again.

that's twice you've mis-characterized what Ben said - here's what he actually said without it going through your superiority-filter:
I like what looks like 500 series racks for distortion and eq, again how close that orange distortion unit is to a Boss distortion pedal is kind of irrelevant, but if it hints at that type of distortion, that particular squaring and clipping, and I can put that in and swap a filter out, then fantastic.

Hi Peter -

Just got around to loading the Multi's today. I know I sound like a broken record on the IK Forums, and even a couple of comments here - but the lack of aftertouch is brutal with this thing. I've been having issues getting my effects pedals mapped to the Syntronik engine too. So there's that. I am really hoping that IK comes through with fixing aftertouch. In this day and age, this should be a given on a synth engine. 'nuf said...

OK. Back to the multi's. I loaded them up... the install engine was smart about knowing I have my libraries on an external SSD. It choose that spot by default and loaded right up. So far so good. Then... I had to remember how to even get to the multi's (where in the menus they are hiding). They're tucked away on the Layers page, top left dropdown list. (Right next to the few that I had created..). The manual isn't clear about this... so here's some more feedback.. Ask your developers to put together a quick.. 'how to' when distributing something like a library of free Syntronik Multis. The On-line release notes say: " 1.0 Release Notes. 300+ Syntronik Multis " :ud: I suppose it's better than nothing... but to be honest... these release notes are lacking. A quick "Install the Multis by.... Access your Multi's on the Layers Page, top left menu...", etc... would be nice.

.. now that I have my bitching and complaining out of the way. This was a VERY nice addition to the Syntronik content. Some of the content in this set, is excellent. I probably only got through a fraction of them - but they were very good. The splits are great, the grooves are well done, for the most part, everything seemed pretty well balanced. There is a huge variety of multi's ... and tweaking them, to taylor to what you want/need - is dead-easy.

Two thumbs up :tu: :tu: for the content. Thanks!

Joe

Yes, he was just looking at it and drawing comparisons with the color. He hadn't heard or downloaded it yet. Pay attention.

That's like saying, oh, I see that your car is candy apple red, well, if it can do 0-60 like my candy apple red hot rod did back in 1972 then yeah, I'm going to love driving a prius. LOL.

Thank you for verifying that he commented on its orangeness. Apologists make me laugh.

The truth is there for all to see - they don't have to rely on your distortions and mis-representations.

At least I know better now than to accept anything you say as factual or accurate - I wish I'd known that before I wasted the keystrokes engaging with you.

Have you reported the audible artifacts issue you are experiencing to IK Support at http://www.ikmultimedia.com/contact-support/mi/ ? They would be able to assist (recreate and report to devs). The other feature requests I see will be gathered and we will have an update coming in a reasonable amount of time in order to address requests like aftertouch and more.
Sadly... I read on the IK forum, that this isn't quite a done-deal?

"I know that they requests for aftertouch have been relayed to the developers. Beyond that, I don't have any information about reasoning behind past decisions or future plans but I'll surely share the latter if and when I have some information."

The words above, were in response to a direct question as to why IKM has ignored aftertouch for years. I would hope IK Multimedia would be more forthcoming about their plans to support their client-base. It would be my hope, that the developers could commit to you, what is in the pipeline. It's not like this is some out of the blue request. Sorry Peter - but a few weeks ago, in the post above - you seemed to be implying that requests "like aftertouch" were being addressed in an imminent release. Your post on the IK Forums, five days ago is in conflict with that. :?

Indeed and the truth is that he had never used the product and simply imagined that the distortion would be cool without having any idea about how it would sound. It was nonsense commentary.

My comments were about the uselessness of the entire interaction. It was hilariously bad. The almost disinterested Nick bringing it up, the overzealous Ty responding "oh look, it has this stuff that's SO unique even though that's pretty much how many Kontakt libraries work" followed by captain orange looking at the web page fishing for something that connected to his experience. You can defend him all that you want, but he DID comment on the orange and then used that as a basis for further commentary.

I'm not a reporter here, my comments are frequently loaded with some color. If you don't do your own verification of details that matter to you, then that's on you. However, you're clearly fishing for details to support your own biases. I simply mocked the entire exchange and, IMNSHO, it was worthy of said mocking.

I'm not really sure what people expect? Of course detailed multisamples are going to sound like an analog synth just like detailed multisamples of a piano are going to sound like a piano. I think that the primary thing that this product has going for it is simply the size of the sample library.

However, Ty's comment that if you can't get an analog sound out of this then it's you, is either vacuously true or just nonsense. You will not be able to use the synth "engine" to get many many flavors of "analog sounds" that you can get with much more capable synthesizers. That's not on you, that's because the technology is limited.

The whole thing came across as a clunky and bloated product placement.

I was told aftertouch was being addressed but I don't have specific timeline or date information for that, is all. Also, one reply was in context of all products including hardware vs my first response specifically in context of sSyntronik. I'll ping the devs again and I hope to have more news to share about aftertouch as soon as I can.

Aftertouch and more multis would make Syntronik an absolute must-buy.

While it's a good idea, don't think I'll be holding my breath for aftertouch in Syntronik anytime soon.

That appears to be lacking throughout the IK product line. I can't find any aftertouch support listed for any of the iRig hardware controllers. http://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/ca ... ontrollers

Imagine the iRig owners asking why they can't use aftertouch from their iRig, if it was made available in an IK synth? It looks like they need a big picture solution for the product line. But since aftertouch has to be built into the key beds, that is a bit more than a firmware upgrade.

But in all fairness, I have used keyboards and controllers with aftertouch for years, and I often ignore it. Implemented correctly, it can add another level of expressive control, but it can be finicky if the patch is not programmed well to use it.

I tend to favor the mod wheel, however that does take one hand. If you have an input for an expression pedal, you could keep both hands on the keys.

It's really just all about the sound. That is what the discussion was about, regardless if there were some statements that could be interpreted as fluff.

Your arguments about the technology are pointless for the folks listening to your music. Nobody is going to care what synth you used, or what technology it has. Your song either sounds good or bad. That is on you.

How could the discussion have been about the sound when one of the primary participants hadn't even tried the product? To me, it was ALL fluff.

You're missing the point. I'm not making a case for specific technology having a better sound given that all technology in question can achieve a particular sound. Obviously, if a sound that you want to use is in Syntronik, then the technology will work to deliver that sound. Whether it's better in something else isn't an argument that I'm making here. What I am saying, however, is that if you want to do something that proper emulations of those synths can do and there isn't a sample of such, such as filter FM, then no amount of praise for the samples or the "drift technology" is going to make up for that, and yes, it does matter to your audience if that is a part of their expectation.

My point was with respect to Ty's comment. The reason that you won't be able to get many sounds that analog synths are capable of out of Syntronik is because Syntronik has a very limited synth engine. So his comment is misleading at best and should be called out for the nonsense that it is. If you can't get a particular sound out of Syntronik that doesn't already exist as a sample, it's probably NOT you, rather, it's that Syntronik isn't very deep as a synthesizer.

Well, let me help you out, just click on my username and add me as a foe. That way you won't have to read what I write for the most part. Really, that's better for all of us. You'd be surprised at much correlation there is between the users that don't like my perspective and how little respect that I have for theirs. Seriously, it won't make me mad, just do it.
