lol! rofl!
this guy is so awesome. This was my favorite part:

"Important: If you're cutting CDs on a home computer, don't use the gold or black ink-on-the-bottm CDRs - use the green ink ones because gold ink CDRs require a more powerful laser than many CD burners have. I find the 700mb sound better than 650 mb"

fyi - i revised my tutorial....fixed some of the things yall pointed out :)

ps: the protools comment is true i have been saving up for quite a while and within 2 pay checks it will be mine MINE MINE!!!!!

Yeah, I know, and it's a very sad fact indeed. The guy should really go get his head checked. I've never ever read so much bullshit on one site about digital audio, ever. Well, OK, let's not call it bullshit yet but man, my ear-brain connection is pretty well trained but this, this is just hilarious. Here's a small quote..

"..I had a client with a Firewire drive with 24 bit AIFF files. He transferred a song from one drive to another. Again, we loaded both the Firewire file and the Mac hard drive file onto my DAW so each could be instantly selected. With morbid curiosity, I stood in front of my console where I could not see which file he played - and in 3 out of 4 comparisons, I heard a difference. The Firewire file was warmer in the vocal and the snare was less dry sounding."

Good for you mate! I hope you've had a chance at testing protools thoroughly tho as it's not the end-all-be-all software that it first might seem to be. Also, be prepared to shell out some serious $$ for some of the more useful plugins out there (I suggest you get the VST to RTAS adapter from FXpansion ASAP as this enables you to use some quality freeware/shareware plugins).

Btw. PT 6.4 really does kick major a$$. It's nice to work with.

Falcon, It's a good idea to make a tutorial for complete beginners. I have not really seen it done before. I know there must be folks out there that don't have a clue what even a mixer or much less reverb is so it's really a good effort. Just be careful how you word/phrase stuff as it can very easily become false information that only confuses the poor bastards even more.

Cheers!

I think it's pretty easy for ppl here to take for granted the things they know & really tear into someone who's trying to do things or cater to ppl that are a few notches lower on a comprehensive scale. I'm guilty of it occasionally, but it's still something I think we could all temper ourselves a litte better at..

Unless it's tarnce or crunk inquiries..

Open season on those guys :uhuhuh:

:( Yes you are so right sir.

Digital myth ??
Two other engineers (in session with me) heard the sound change when we raised the client's computer off the floor with soft isolation pads. The only thing that changed was what the computer was sitting on. We found that setting the computer on a hardwood floor made the sound more immediate and crisp, compared with setting it on soft isolators. On the floor, the snare sounded punchier, the kic more immediate, and the overall sound was tighter. A solid platform is even better when vibration isolators are used - and you'll be amazed at the difference a great power cable makes too.
  :?

That's yer top notch bullshit if you asking me...

You're defenitely right about this, sickle, but I really thought this must've been some (rather funny) pisstake.

And, to falconmusic: I am sorry, but while the information you try to provide isn't exactly wrong, it's still not much informative, let alone being elaborated in any way.
You mix up things a lot (why talk about export file formats before there's something to export at all?) and you provide some "information" which I'd consider to be dubious (that "key" or "add reverb" thing for example), to say the least.
Yes, you may consider calling me an asshole, but as it is, your page doesn't provide much useful information for beginners - it'll rather leave them confused.
There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

I can confirm 700MB cd's sound better than 650MB ones, especially memorex.

The tutorial i wrote is for absolute beginners in the world of music. people that have no idea what reverb is or how to make an mp3 of thier own. Thanks for your comments though :)
where will you lead them ?

Flanger. This quite simply morphs your sound into something completely different. I find it best just to play around with all the bells and whistles until you get the sound you like with it. This effect works to make a sound groovier. This should be used lightly in hip-hop and rnb music.
sound is vibration, vibration is life

On my own site I advocate "learn by teaching", so use this opportunity. If folks can offer specific and constructive criticisms, make the appropriate edits and come back with "how is it now?".

As I pointed out in my own flip post, I wouldn't recommend telling anyone to stop reading, since they probably will.

That's hardly the point. The point is - as Sascha Franck pointed out a few posts earlier - that the guide borders on misinformation. Imo the article most likely just confuses beginners and teaches them bad habits. No reason to patronize a text like that...

Hell! This would be comic if it wasn't so tragically stupid! I can't believe this guy makes a living from this cretinous garbage.
