I like the Orion instruments, but not Orion as a host. Bummer really.

Why so, if I may be so bold as to ask. I often hear this from folks but:
a. I cannot think of a single thing that ORION doesn't let me do.
b. Its amazing how many threads around here are asking for instruments/effects/etc. that do something or other that ORION has built-in. e.g. SideChains or Arpeggiator.

Maybe it the way it's done that makes people use other hosts.

I just can't stand the pattern based sequencing, and the overall organisation of windows. It has improved a fair bit but there's no way that I can construct songs in the manner that Orion forces one to. I always really liked the simplicity of the sampler and gave rewire a go but there are only 4 channels with Orion and it proved to be more of a pain than it was worth.

Precisely the sort of thing I'd like to know.

Sorry, that was meant to go under Banjostar's post. Makes perfect sense I guess. I'm just so used to pattern based sequencing since I bought my M1 in 1989 that it has become entirely second nature. Before that it was far worse with things like Yamaha's QX1 or Korg's SQD1.

I have to say, being used to Cubarse, I tried the Orion demo and was very confused (doesn't take much), so I gave up. That said, if I ever get in the position of changing my host, I will certainly try OP again...purely because it has such a loyal following and some great stuff included in the bundle...

and collabin with krim would be easier

That's exactly how I felt when I first tried CubaseVST in 1998 or so. It completely put me off using a PC for anything other than sample-wrangling for a couple of years until my band-mate showed me Fruityloops v1.7 which was fun, if not exactly great, at that time. The Trinity's sequencer is still the second best arranging environment for me.

Just one example (well, because you asked for it):

maybe it is incorrect, but an experienced Orion user told me (while we've been doing a track in his studio) that it is impossible to sinply copy a pattern from one track to another. :?
He had to open the piano-roll of the pattern and copy all notes inside to the clipboard, then to create a new pattern on the other track, to open the piano-roll and to paste the notes inside. :-o

From track i assume you mean synth?

all you need to do is click 'copy all patterns', the click on the other synth, and click paste. no need to open piano roll at all

thats wrong
copy and paste is fine track to track :?
i do it all the time, ill put something together using all samplers as a sketch to save cpu(good little tip)then wrap all loops into one pattern also possible in orion then copy the whole track into say absynth or ultran or whatever.then play about here n there with everythin except one track mixed to audio then play with that and so on until ive gone through evrything.

or as krim puts it yeah you can do that

The sidechain aspect of Orion is very useful and I also miss that somewhat, though this will soon be part of the VST spec.

You can also merge all the patterns of one instrument into one new long one, and export that to MIDI if you wish.
