The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

Yikes, the 'Dan were truly a unique unit. Only saw them once (with Keith Carlock on drums and "Ready" Freddy Washington on bass - dayum!) and was surprised by Walter's sense of humor. RIP!

Steely Dan were a truly a great band. From 72 to 80 every album they did was a classic imho. I still regularly listen to them, not many bands have stayed on my playlist that long. They didn't come over to the UK very often and when they did the tickets would sell out fast, I'm glad I managed to catch them on one of those occasions, because they were as great live as on disc.
RIP WB.

WOW! This is shocking.
The Dan were one of only a few bands who when releasing a new LP, I expected to not like it at first but understood it would actually be great but beyond my brains musical understanding and needed to grow on me. (sorry for the run on sentence.
)
Remember, Becker introduced us to the Dumble amp head. (guitarists know what I mean.) That was a large part of the Steely Dan sound along with the Mu Major chord.

There was a movie soundtrack album by Becker/Fagan called "Walk it Like You Talk it". It features songs they wrote while at Bard. 1971 Check it out.
Really sorry to hear about this.

I had every Steely Dan album growing up. Had every piece of sheet music. Saw them in the 90's The song writing was just through the roof. They weren't your average rockers that's for sure.
