Rack mount four track that wasn't a Tascam.
I wanted one back circa 1984/5, but never got one.
Can't for the life of me remember the name. Google, so far, hasn't been my friend.

Any ideas?

Feel free to add you own queries about forgotten equipment. :tu:

Fostex were the other big brand name around that time. I had one of their 4-track recorders for a while - but it wasn't rack mount, and I don't know if they ever did rack mount.
Time is an illusion - lunchtime doubly so.

'80s leg warmers?

This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.

It wasn't a big brand in music, I remember that much. And deffo '84 ish
It's completely pointless exercise, as I'll never buy one now, but sheesh, I wish I could remember it.

If you're serious, you could search mu:zines

Thanks for trying, but no, not a vestax.
All I've got, and it's vague at best, is that it was black.

I'm resigned to letting it be forgotten through advancing senility, or a surprise flash in the pan, blast of sudden insight.
I suspect the former.

Did it use audio cassettes?

Post

Yes, four track rack mount unit, using cassette tapes. Black colour, and that's all I know.

Probably some poor-quality imitation of Tascam because if it had been a quality brand, it would be well known to people who were around back then, like me for instance.

Post

Well I was around back then, obviously, and I chose it over the tascam, even though I didn't end up buying it.
I don't believe it was was poor quality, otherwise I wouldn't have been interested in it.
Maybe you're not the best person to assist. The answer isn't sylenth or amd. Thanks for playing, though.

Post

Vestax? Probably not, I think they were grey.

No, not vestax

Definitely obscure. Guess it will die with me.

Your personal attack was totally inappropriate and quite ungrateful to someone who spends any time on your question...

Well, if it were a known brand, we would know it. There were only few companies that made such devices.
Teac/Tascam, Yamaha, Fostex, Vestax.
