Roland Cloud just mentioned "The JV1080 will have the updated interface" on their FB. Hopefully something like a JD-800 interface or at least like D-50 plugin interface, with all expansion boards included. I've been waiting too long for that! Even if they release the XV or Integra, I still need that good ol' JV sound.

As far as I can tell you would need to pay by credit card.
The statement you quoted really just means that you pay in US dollars...I'm in Australia, and have been subbed for 5 months now, and my credit card gets charged the fee at the US to AUD conversion rate at that time, so just now $19.90USD costs me about $25AUD.

Roland cloud has done some improvements now concerning the protection and the plugins:

Some plugins like e.g. Jupiter-8 seem to have got improvements in CPU use now (latest version of Jupiter-8 is v1.04).
Updating the plugins with the Roland Cloud Manager seemed to work properly here.

One change is that for the activation you only have to be online once a week now. Here's a question we get asked a lot: "Do I really have to be connected to the internet all the time to use Roland Cloud?"
As of this update, our answer is "not anymore."
We're inviting you to go unplugged, and in this case, we're referring to your network cable or WIFI adapter.
With the "Performance Ready" update from Roland Cloud, we’ve drastically increased the time required between sign-ins and gone from “internet always required” to “internet not required for up to a week between sign-ins.” This means you can take your instruments on the road and get the great sounds of Roland Cloud without fear of your favorite venue, jam space, coffee shop or even airline having spotty or non-existent internet. We haven't completely removed the need for an active internet connection, but we've made it much easier to take your show on the road.
As Roland Cloud is an online service, you’ll still need to connect to receive updates, patches, and new stuff, but now it’s only required for authentication purposes once a week and only when you choose to.
In addition to lengthening the time required between sign-ins, we’ve literally made several performance enhancements, feature additions and bug fixes to the instruments themselves:
- The Windows versions of Polyphonic ACB based synths (Legendary and AIRA series) have had CPU load improved across the board
- MIDI-Learn functionality has been added to ACB based synthesizers (Legendary and AIRA series)
- UI Zoom settings now persist across tracks for ACB based synths (Legendary and AIRA series)
- The D-50 Linear Synthesizer should now sync when rendering from your DAW
- Some members reported several VST3 instruments getting blacklisted by Cubase 9. This should no longer happen.
- Several enhancements and bug fixes to Concerto based instruments Reverb (Tera, Anthology and FLAVR series) are now live.
- To apply and take advantage of this update, simply launch Roland Cloud Manager and accept updates for all instruments. Easy.

Wow, only once a week. Our calls have been answered.Ingonator wrote:One change is that for the activation you only have to be online once a week now.
Seriously though, this is still a bunch of hooey and personally i cant for the life of me understand how anyone can put up with it. I mean imagine buying a synthesizer, a real one, which just stops working every tuesday unless a technician swings by on monday to fix you up with another 7 days. The thought alone is totally ridiculous, nobody in their right mind would go for it, yet thats exactly the kind of dependency people accept with this cloud nonsense. (Well, that and the bill.) Their servers having a bad day: Your Roland synths will remain silent because your allowance has just expired and you cannot renew. Your internet doesnt work right or you dont have any access at all: Your project cant progress since your synths have expired and you cant do squat about it. The authorizer has a problem and refuses to authorize you: Forget any deadlines you may have because the next 10 days will be spent emailing, telephoning, troubleshooting, waiting for them to find the problem and come up with the fix.
Not that its any of my business what others do, but man, personally i would rather hand-assemble my own synthesizers if thats what it takes than selling my soul in such a manner to a 3rd party. Anything goes wrong, i am the fooled and even payed for it. No thanks, not that desperate yet.

Absolutely; to each his own. But if you were to buy the cheapest hardware synth, which I am seeing as the Korg Minilogue at Sweetwater for $499, that would be 2 years subscription to the Roland Cloud at which time you would own two of the Roland plugins through their loyalty program. You could either have a cheap 4 voice synth or two great sounding (IMO) plugins with higher voice count and multiple instances.ENV1 wrote: Not that its any of my business what others do, but man, personally I would rather hand-assemble my own synthesizers if that's what it takes than selling my soul in such a manner to a 3rd party. Still not sure what all the hate is for the Roland Cloud. I do not hear this much negativity about the EastWest sub and with if you do not get a product of your choice for free after 12 months. Same goes for Slate and Kush. etc. None of them offer to give you a plugin a year.

I don't really think you can compare hardware to software in terms of cost, but if you did, you could sell you hardware after 2 years an probably get back at least 50-70% of what you paid (Eurorack modules I have sold I get back 80-90%), so in essence it has cost you a lot less. 2 years subscription to the Cloud and you have 2 plug ins for a cost $500, you may be able to resell them (not sure on the licence) but you will be luck to see $50 each.JJ_Jettflow wrote:Absolutely; to each his own. EastWest sub (10 000 instruments!) is an option, you can still buy the individual instruments if you prefer (I own the EW CCC, no subscription for me!) and I have no problem with the subscription option (although Roland doesn't have very much to offer) but we should have a choice. I own a System 1m and bought it on the basis that I could 'buy' plug outs, now I cant unless I pay 20 bucks a month (its not even in GBP so I get stuffed on conversion) for the rest of my natural life and have internet check ups weekly!
X32 Desk, i9 PC, S88MK3, S1, BWS, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6 Pro3, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone II, OP1-F, OPXY, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

Yes, hardware can be sold for a higher price than software but I really do not buy either with the mind to sell it. I always try to make educated choices with gear so that I can enjoy making music instead of buying, learning and selling all the time.SLiC wrote:

RC has 17 titles and growing. EastWest titles range between $100 (for the Silver Piano) to $500 for EW Hollywood Orchestra Gold at AD so again, I am not sure what the difference is if you spend $20 and get the D50 or the Jupiter 8 or the Juno 106 after one year, as well as access to over 17 more titles, or pay between $100 to $500 outright for one title and no access to any others? And after one year and you have chosen your plug, you would not have one-week checkups...on that plug.SLiC wrote: EastWest sub (10 000 instruments!) is an option, you can still buy the individual instruments if you prefer (I own the EW CCC, no subscription for me!) and I have no problem with the subscription option (although Roland doesn't have very much to offer) but we should have a choice. I imagine some electro laptop megastar getting shut down in the middle of the concert "Oops sorry i forgot to connect my laptop to internet, can anyone share wifi on its smartphone? no?, hmm well concert cancelled."

Well if he didn't hook up to the internet and make sure it had been authorized before up to 6 days before his concert, he would have no one to blame but himself. Just as much as he said, "does anyone have a laptop charger, mine seems to be broke and my battery is just about dead. Anyone have a charger? No? Sorry concert canceled."
