Hi,

Just noticed Pianoteq has just been released!

https://www.pianoteq.com/pianoteq6

Audio examples sound like an improvement from v5.x The upgrade from v5 Pro is 29 euro's and an instant buy for me!

Excellent, I really like 5 so this is probably a no brainer. I only have 5 stage but I see I can upgrade to Standard 6 for $150 - I wonder if that is worth doing>?

I'm content with 5. I can't see 6 being that much of an improvement that, within the context of a mix, you're going to hear a difference.

They have some comparisons here: https://www.pianoteq.com/listen_comparison

I had a playthrough of the grand models last night in 6 and I have to say it's noticeably better than 5. The tone, presence, reverberation, and overall feeling is impressive. I play on a Steinway baby grand at my teacher's house weekly and the model D in Pianoteq 6 sure feels like it. Sustained notes with damper intermingle in the right way, sympathetic resonance works well, half pedaling is spot on. I'm amazed they're able to do all of this in about 100MB.

Highly recommended.
Feel free to call me Brian.

The percussion instruments are also improved

Hard to imagine, because I think 5 sounds better than every sampled piano that I have. In fact, it's the only piano I use when I want a "real" piano. Hard to believe that 6 can be that much better.

For me it's the clarity that was always an issue with previous Pianoteq builds, when you had a rush of notes on some piano models you'd get like a resonant mush of sound that really muddied things - this definitely seems reduced here as shown in this demo:

Comparisons are kind of a mixed bag for me here.
I do like the improved pianos & clavinet in 6.
At first listen though, I lean more toward 5 for the W1 bright & vibraphone.
Sometimes 'clarity' can sacrifice the bite, bark or growl I love in a good electric.

Academic at this point for me since the ticket to ride was only $39.00...
Installing in the next hour to get more accustomed...

Where do you see that price, the upgrade is listed at $190 from what I can see.

I love the improved Vibe, especially the B model sounds miles better to me, and the Glock is amazing.

Anyone know how upgrading works in terms of older, completed tracks and backwards compatibility? If a song was done using the Pianoteq 5 plugin, can you maintain both 5 and 6 on your system? Or does 6 replace 5 altogether? And if the latter, does it automatically load in place (with all the same settings) of 5 in older projects?

Thanks for any insight anyone has.

Post

It's a separately named VST (Pianoteq 6.dll on the PC) and installed in another subfolder to the Modartt parent folder so multiple versions can co-exist if you want :)

If you play a lot of piano I say yes it is. Pianoteq is one of those classic pieces of software that is too expensive for me but make me jealous. it's lovely sounding software that plays beautifully. If you don't play piano much then you are probably good though.
