Hi ,

I am planning to buy a mobile phone .

Which is the best mobile phone for listening to music ?

Note : I play lossless files like flac mostly and of course youtube .

There are portable Amp/DACs you can attach to your phone via USB, making the phone audio quality moot.

If you want to carry just your phone, take a look at the HTC 10 and LG V20.

I use headphones mostly . So need recommendations for the same .

Would the phone matter for quality of the audio output ?

If you are listening to music from Youtube, then it really doesn't matter which phone, or headphone you are listening to. The audio quality of Youtube if horrible.

But if you are playing lossless and looking for audio response, then the app on the phone, and the headset become more important as the DAC of the phones aren't really an issue.

Get yourself a good audio player app that can handle proper flac files, and a set of good headphones. Look for headphones with a flat response curve as they will not add unintended colour to the audio.

Looks for Sennheiser, high-end Sony, AKG, or even Audio-Technica. They all make good flat headphones, but they also make DJ quality which tends to be heavier on bass.

I have Etymotic ER4 XR .
What player I can use to hear songs on mobile ?

In general , which all affects the audio quality ? :
1) The DAC on the mobile phone
2) The type of audio file ( lossless or lossy )
3) The Audio Player or
4) The headphones you use

I've looked in to this myself ... (and I'm not willing to lug around a separate DAC to attach to the phone

)

From what I can gather (based on research, not personal experience), iPhone 4 was the best, then the quality of DAC dropped off in iPhones... the iPhones are better than the iTouches (which is lame since you'd expect the iTouch to put more emphasis into music listening). And no one seems to give any regard to the samsung range, on this topic.

You would be better off asking this question on audiophile, stereophile type forums. Asking here and someone will eventually try to convince you that a Nokia 5110 will do the job just fine.
