Hi Friends,
Some people I have been reading about use some interesting methods to create original sounds from samples.
I have heard it mentioned that some programs support importing of ANY FILE as audio data- importing as 'raw', i think.
I want to know if there is a good freeware app which people can use to import any file into audio, so it can be used in sampling methods desicibed in this forum- for musical purposes.
thanks
Tim

Most decent audio processing apps like CoolEditPro (now called Adobe Audition) are capable of import RAW data and export to any regular audio format. I'm sure even a novice programmer can make a program that converts RAW to WAV or AIFF. You have to experiment a bit (8 or 16-bit, signed or not...)
But... if you plan to use "any file" as input, it sounds to me you plan to use any non-audio file as input. Most likely you will end up with a burst of noise that can damage your audio equipment or even your ears when wearing headphones at a high level.

thanks for your advice.
yes I would like to use non-audio data as input- has anyone done this?
I'm not a programmer in any respect. are there any good freeware wave editors that can do this? and how can I be safe in doing it?

Did it, no fun at all. Sounds like you broke something (which actually MIGHT happen!) and you want it to stop right away, regretting you even tried. It's yer ultimate all-killing NOISE.
It's in the serious "Don't try that at home" category. Like once I figured (I was only 9 years old at the time) that mains was 50Hz and wanted to hear what that sounded like so I plugged a speaker directly into the mains.
Subtle hum?? Naaah... !!! BAM !!!
No more speaker, and never told daddy
