You absolutely hate iLok because it's the devil and it's sh*t and because everybody else hates it, too?
You wan't to let everybody know how much you hate it?
You're thinking about hijacking another topic to turn a constructive discussion into an offtopic-iLok-bash-fest?

HOLD ON!
There's no need for that, as there's now this exclusive topic to channel all your iLok related hate and frustration :hyper:

I've had way more problems with Challenge/Response schemes ..... C/R is the real devil in our midst here.

And when it comes to a fresh OS install ?? fuggedabout it ... dongle protected software is a breeze to install.

that's pretty much my two cents on this tired topic.

I moved my license for PolyKB III from my iLOK stick to my laptop (using the PACE soft manager).

Been doing some Windows 10 update since then.

Now PolyKB III is missing that license, even though it is on my laptop :(

you tried the obvious step of moving it BACK to the physical ilok and seeing if PKBIII recognised it there?

I haven't been logged in to PACE manager for a couple of months, if doing that and the updates will not fix the problem, I will try to move the licence back to the iLOK stick via another computer.

My big hate for iLOK is the transfer fees.

To compare: How can Native Instrument do transfers for free, and even implement a new platform for users to do transfers, still for free, while iLOK (the shylock) craves $25 per transfer :help: :x

Post

I frankly have no idea why a license transfer in general has to involve a fee. If i'd be running a business, i'd calculate the additional time and support it costs me into the price of the software (the additional time it costs to do the sole license transfer shouldn't exceed 5 minutes BTW ;)). And, with a system like iLok, i even less can understand it, because you surely can automate the system to avoid that time and costs totally.

+1

Automate it, put the job of transfer in the users hands, should be of little or no cost to anybody else.

Post

Yep. :) It's pretty unlikely that different users will have the same question too, so, double support, which has always been an argument given by developers, as far as i'm concerned, shouldn't be a thing either. Frankly, if a big company like NI can do it for free, then everyone can do it.

I hate everything that starts with a lower case "i". They're all absolute shit products designed solely as money extraction devices for as little return value as possible.
If you have to ask, you can't afford the answer

This thread should be a sticky, so those of us who don't mind iLok can efficiently refer the haterz to it whenever they get triggered.

I personally have no issue against iLok. I have several soft ilok license on my computer.

Except when it comes to transferring them. Yeah, why the hell is there a fee? and very expensive too.
