Bands that created a b-side legacy ?

In the 80's there were many bands that put good stuff on b-sides, like The Smiths, Housemartins, and Pet Shop Boys.
And not to forget The Communards, during '85-'88 they made two albums, but managed to rack up 18 exclusive tracks on b-sides (as far as I can count)
Breadline Britain
Sentimental Journey
Annie
Johnny Verso
Sanctified
When The Walls Come Tumbling Down
Never No More
Judgement Day
Czardas
I Just Want To Let You Know
Romanze For Violin, Piano And Hedgehog
Scat
'77 The Great Escape
Piece Of Saxophone
I Do It All For You
Zing Went The Strings Of My Heart
Spanish Rap (El Amor No Es Solo Un Hombre Y Una Mujer)
When The Boy In Your Heart Is The Boy In Your Arms
So in addition to the 85 minutes of music they put out on the albums, they had about an extra hour "hid away" on b-sides
Too bad that b-side legacy never has been compiled on a CD.

The Cure put all their B-Sides on side 2 of their first hits compilation. I think it's fair to say most of the songs were better than many bands' A-Sides.
If every KVR member wrote one review a year we'd have 1340 reviews each day!

Soft Cell/Marc Almond hid away many excellent tracks as b-sides, luckily those have been collected on CD's later, like a Virgins Tale 1+2
Ultravox and Depeche Mode also amassed a legacy of b-sides

But some bands like the Housemartins, had not just one b-side, but often released 4 track 12"s, the single plus 3 extra tracks b-sidesAnX wrote:Most bands in the 80's had a diff track as a b-side (as opposed to a diff version of the a-side)

In the 90s, Oasis' B-sides were pretty good:
Talk Tonight
Acquiesce
Fade Away
The Masterplan
Half the World Away
D’Yer Wanna Be a Spaceman?
Better than Blur's B-sides anyway...

Good ones en masse, at least so that their b-sides collected could fill an album by itselfAnX wrote:Yeah. I mean, im not sure what you are looking for here...?

One of Sade's best songs was only ever released as a B side (I have the single still) - astonishing singing
