Really, why am I holding onto all this stuff???

Is it:

a) I hate parting with anything?

b) it might be worth something one day?

c) I'm too lazy to bother digging under the rest of the junk?

d) A whole chunk of my life went into these machines and I'm just too sentimental to let go?

e) You never know, I might just use it er tomorrow?

f) I can't afford to leave my kids a Philippe Patek watch so these will have to do?

g) It gives me secret cred and a secret sense of power?

h) I worship black & grey?

i) I can never spare the 1/2 day or so it'd take to get it all working again?

j) Shit, who needs a JV 1080 when I've got Avenger/Massive/Spire/blah blah?

I don't hold onto things that I don't use, but if I did, it'd be a bunch of old computers, a Kurzweil K2000RS w/ Orchestrol ROM, and a bunch of midi controllers that have either the pitch wheel or mod wheel busted cuz they all suck

I think for me it is a combination of a few things. I have a sentimental attachment to old gear, and I probably have an unrealistic belief that I'll use it again someday. Also, I'm very paranoid about getting ripped off selling gear on Craigslist, Ebay, etc. and it just isn't worth the hassle to me.

I have a bunch of dead C64 motherboards covered in road dust/dirt, in a garage with no main door. I'd never leave any real equipment in there.

Aside from broken things that cost too much to repair (or things that were always junk), I'm appalled at any music hardware left unused My Akai S6000 is probably the most underused piece of gear I have, but I occasionally start it up ... and look at eBay for gear to replace the noisy fan and the SCSI hard drive with a compact flash reader...

The resell value of that is a crime, a great module like that will fetch less than $150 on ebay

I had an Atari ST, managed to sell that for £30, still hanging on to an old Yamaha PSS board, an Edirol/Roland MIDI controller, some FX boxes, and Arturias Analog Laboratory MK1 controller, and not to mention a Fostex 4 track that needs servicing...
