Strange noises from soundcard, Help please I'm going mad !!!

Has anyone had any problems with noises while using midi files?
I can be working away and all of a sudden I get a screech through the speakers. This can happen without even playing a tune and its a lot louder than the mix suggesting that its bypassing the volume control.
I've reloaded, checked connections and all the stuff that I know to do safely without making a bollocks of everything but no luck.
It doesn't do it in the demo version of Ableton Live 4 or Reason.
Its ok in CM Studio and Storm 1.5 (No midi) run fine.
Its getting really annoying now because I really like Tracktion and want
to do some interesting stuff but this noise thing just puts me off.
It will do it until I close the program or open the sound card setting window and play the test tune. This stops the noise and I can work for a few minutes before it starts again.
Sometimes it sounds like a plucked guitar and I had the notion that maybe there was a stray midi signal looping around somewhere.
I wish I could explain better but if any of you guys have experienced this thing you will know what I mean.

That noise from your description is your soundcard drivers giving up the ghost.
My suggestion-dump the Audigy and get a different soundcard.

What drivers are you using for your Audigy? If it's Creative's you may want to try the KX drivers (download from www.kxproject.com for free).

Don't forget to uninstall the original Creative drivers before you install the one from KXproject.

It must be a AUdigy thing. I uninstalled everything Creative and rebooted, when the hardware wizard kicked in I pointed it to drivers on the disk and let it load them. Now everything is just fine plus I got rid of loads of junk freeing up valuable space.

Only problem is that Storm 1.5 (which says it is designed to work with Audigy cards ) wont load. Ok I can live without Storm, no big loss.

Hi Dave Just thought I would send in my two cents, hope it's a help! I used to own a Live card from Creative and found the same problems though with different software. so I switched to a very good Pro card called Gina and now Layla 24/96 from Echo Electronics check out the site: http://www.echoaudio.com/Products/PCI/ (http://www.echoaudio.com/Products/PCI/)

They have a new generation card series with midi included in several of them most moderately priced. I hope it's a help so you can get back to making some great music!
