No. You can't say this. The fact that it's true doesn't matter. You must be a troll.mojkarma wrote: My conclusion would be: if you are happy with Sonar, you like it and you like the new features, do the upgrade. But, allmost everything on the new feature list of Sonar4 is already implemented in sequencers like Cubase or Logic.

thats clearly the point of this release, and its a great thing. All sequencers borrow from others.
Sonar was the first (afaik) host with full PDC. It was in as-of Sonar1, all the other sequencers have already if not are soon going to follow suit.
Sonar had the concept of freeze before any of the other hosts. Logic reworked it into a much more developed idea, and everyone copied that. Sonar has now borrowed back on what Logic did and have refined it even further.
Sonar's new bus architecture is something you will soon see spreading to the other hosts.
Sonar's dynamic console view has a number of features I think you'll see coming soon to a host near you.
I find it in the best case comedic, in the worst case moronic that people portray this like Sonar is the only host never to have had ideas taken to improve other sequencers.

I used SONAR1 for a while, sold if off because it was too limiting. SONAR4 looks like it has everything a body needs.. but it's almost $1000US! Oww oww oww!
Guess I can't afford it, Oh Well.

I would certainly never suggest that. In fact, I'm extremely happy that there's such strong competition in the sequencer market and so far the major players haven't dragged each other into interminable patent lawsuits and have instead done their best to rise to the challenges of their competitors. They've all introduced major innovations that raise the bar for everyone else.EricRichmond wrote: I find it in the best case comedic, in the worst case moronic that people portray this like Sonar is the only host never to have had ideas taken to improve other sequencers.
If you compare the progress made in music software technology in the last three years to the progress made in word processing apps, for example, it's pretty clear that we all benefit tremendously from this. With Sonar 4, Live 4, SX3 and Logic 6 Pro, this has been an amazing year already.
The great leaps made in analog emulation are another very happy story.

Oh for fu*k sake! You can buy Sonar3 for $400 and upgrade to Sonar4 for free, so what is your point? Which one looks like a better deal to you? Does anyone think before they say things like "Glad I don't own it...lol". Geez.ATS wrote:Glad I don't own it, they want almost $200 dollars for the upgrade. Retail price is now about $1000 dollarsI don't use this or Cubase but right now you can buy Cubase SX 2 for $400 and upgrade to SX 3 for $50.

kuniklo,
hey I wasn't actually talking about you at all when i posted that. it was more of a general statement, and the person who did inspire the post wasn't you either
Hope you didn't think I was attacking you.

Unless I can get it for about 1/2 that, it's still outside my budget. I'd rather spend on more rackmount gear at that point.LoRez wrote:That's list price. For anyone scared off by the $959 USD list price for S4PE, I think you can still find Project 5 for $199 USD. Then you can upgrade from that to S4PE for $299 USD (total of $498). That's the route I took with S3PE.

Once again I have to point out that this is the quickest new version release I've seen from them yet.
It's only been a year, and we've seen ONE update to version 3. I mean they've apparently been working on quite a few "enhancements" such as the metronome and the optimized audio engine. So they couldn't release any of these as a v3.x.x???......Of course not, if they hoarde all the small features (as well as the larger ones) they can call it a "new version".
I can't believe no one else is irritated. Version 1 to version 2...huge difference. Version 2 to version 3.....gigantic and wonderful difference. Version 3 to version 4.....a bunch of shit they could have released individually as updates, but instead have "bundled" to warrant a new version.
And honestly, I could give a f**k about the new plugs.
At this rate they should just charge us Cake customers a $179.00 a year member fee. And I also love how close the price to upgrade from version 1 is to the price for me to upgrade from Sonar3 Producer. "Yeah Cakewalk, I've supported you all along, and updated with every new version, but let some kid who just bought version 1 off of Ebay for $50 upgrade to the same version as me for just slightly more money." f**k this. f**k Cakewalk. f**k pandas.
But Sonar still rules
