Hi there!

This is my first posting at kvr-vst (but I am a more or less frequent reader), so hello to everyone!

I just saw the announcement of a new magix music maker 2005 (german) at http://www.magix.de and think about purchasing it.
Can anyone tell me if it is worth it or if I should better look for a 2004 or 2003 version on sellout instead?

Why should I get the deluxe version for 99.99€ instead of the normal one for 49.99€?
The main difference seems to be that deluxe has 24bit support.

welcome to KvR,

if this is worth purchasing depends on what you want to do.

if your loooking for a starting point into pc based music making, it is a way to go.
If you want to record audio also, I would go with the deluxe version, it has the audio editor added.

But I´d suggest to look at some other progs, like tracktion and energyXT that are in the same price range, but much more pointing in professionl direction.

You can get so many free high class pluguins on the net that you never need to buy any. and there are many samples free to dl.

But the magix is not bad at all (good value for money), I started with the musicmaker a few years ago and soon went on to other sequenzers, as my knowledge ad needs grew.

Thank you for the answer, I guess I should have been a bit more precise here, sorry.

I've been playing around with Buzz for a while, but I find it quite difficult to arrange a full song with it. I almost end with something like 30 sec fragments, but no real song.

So what I want is some program, that helps me to arrange, put some mixing effects on it if necessary, adding pad or even my voice (sic! ;).

Moving away from Buzz would be an option too, as I use mostly VSTis and VST FX now.

It really depends on what you are looking for.

music studio deluxe consists of 2 independant programs: midi STUDIO and audío STUDIO. With midi Studio you get an unlimited number of midi tracks but you can use that only, if you can point your midi out to some GM/GS compatible sound generator, e.g. a soundcard with onboard wavetable.
In addition you can have 12 "audio instruments", either the included instruments of midi Studio or VSTIs/DXIs. Works like most hosts, you have a midi track that points to an instrument track. You can use effects, too on your tracks (again native or VST, DXI).
Last you can record audio with midi STUDIO, there is an improvement with midi STUDIO 2005 because it can now handle 24bit streams. Output is limited to 4 stereo outs. The whole program still reminds of earlier versions of Emagic Logic - btw. it's programmed by Emagic.

Mixing possibilities are quite good with certain limitations (e.g. no send effects, limited automation), so I wouldn't necessarily call it unprofessional.

audio STUDIO, as the name says is for recording, mixing and mastering audio. Version 2005 can import, play back and export 24bit audio and is now very similar to Samplitude 6 or 7. That means, for the price it's really a bargain (Have a look at the Samplitude prices and you'll know what I mean  ). It's object orientated and includes some decent effects. I really like audio STUDIO for mastering for its possibilities and its quality.

It is possible to use midi STUDIO and audio STUDIO together by linking them via midi (midi yoke, etc.) but that's not a very elegant solution (you can, however, export audio files directly from midi STUDIO to audio STUDIO).

If you have a creative soundcard (Live, Audigy) you might experience difficulties because of the 48 kHz fixed sampling rate - actually I never managed to run midi STUDIO 2004 with an Audigy. This may have changed/improved with version 2005, though.

So depending on what you're into ... you might find MAGIX music studio deluxe is everything you need, especially for the price. On the other hand, as you may have already guessed from rsmus' reply, it's not exactly regarded as a pro-solution  Still, parts of it namely audio STUDIO offer professional possibilities and quality. At least that's what I think of it

I personally love Magix Music Maker. It's a lot of fun and has so many features that it's difficult to knock. It's certainly not a chore to use.

My only real criticism was with the midi editor/VSTi support and it looks like that's been sorted out with a new Midi editor. New instruments/FX look cool too.

Go for it. :)

my only real critzism was that live input/monitoring was virtually impossible because it didn't support asio and it looks like that's been sorted out.

Go for it. :)
