Never tried it so I can't answer that.

No - it automaps plugin parameters to its UI knobs and buttons. You need to map your midi controller to the UI knobs and buttons (but you only need to do that once, or use one of the included maps if you have one of the M-Audio or Akai supported keyboards).

oh okay. i see what you're saying. the mappings would work across all the plugins in VIP?

Yes. You map your controller midi CC to VIP knobs. Then VIP maps its knobs to the various plugins parameters.

Question about the presets/multis, a database, and reinstalls:
when you've mapped all your presets, made some multis,
is there a database file/folder available for backup,
so one can do a fresh or reinstall of VIP,
and then copy back the saved database file/folder,
to save time/effort? Are the files in the typical paths?

Just do File > Back up or File > Restore Back up.
This saves/reimport a backup with all your presets, multis, mappings, tags, setlists, ...
