OS - Windows 7 (64 bit). 4GB RAM. AMD C-50 processor (1GHz)

Whenever I try to open the application on the desktop, the application starts - the splash screen appears, and then 'nothing'

From a search on KVR forums, I followed a previous posters advice, and found the 'tracktion5log' and found the following:

Whilst using the softaware this afternoon, I had several VST running (DSK, VSCO orchestra ZynaddsubFX) ... decided to finish, and close down Traction. I didn't want to save anything, so clicked on 'discard'

When I clicked to open T5 about half an hour later, the splash screen would appear, and then 'nothing' :(
After a few attempts, I decided to reinstall the software. Upon installation, the program automatically launches - success, or so I thought. I then set about scanning for the VST plugins. T5 didn't find any of them. I checked the folder for the plugins (ie. C>users>stupot101>appdata>roaming>tracktion4>tracktionplugins ) my plugins are still on the hard disk
When I closed the program, and tried to re-launch it, I had the same problem as before - appear to start, and then 'nothing'
Then I set about uninstalling T5 from the hard drive, and reinstalling it (using windows install/uninstaller) and again the same thing occurs. I have the original download installer/program on a separate drive, so I didn't install from the C drive (maybe that wouldn't make a difference ?)
So after 2 attempts at installing the software - nothing.

Thanks in advance.

PS. is it worth trying Tracktion 6?

Post

You can have T6 installed at the same time as T5, so nothing to lose doing that.

Did you try a reboot at some point?

From the log file it says 32bit, your os is 64bit, unless ive missed something!

Sorry, I don't know how to quote a post if it is not in front of me :)

Yes, I did re-boot the computer in both occasions.

I also noticed that it was '32 bit' in the log file - maybe that is the problem? However, it has been working quite well for about 6 months.

Thanks for the idea about installing T6 alongside T5.
Is it worth the upgrade? what new features are in T6?

Thanks for the replies so far.

Sorry if there are any spelling mistakes. I have had 4 operations on my eyes within the last 6 months. Cataracts, and other related problems.
I am using a laptop, with a screen magnification in order to read any text etc. When using the magnification with music software, and DAWs it can be very tiresome to keep scrolling the screen.

Thanks

You can run the 32 or 64-bit version of Tracktion on a 64-bit OS. Use the version of Tracktion that matches your VST plugins.

One plugin might be problematic. Delete or better rename the tracktion settings file; and make sure when you scan for plugins you move favorite/known plugins to another folder and scan that one only (plus the tracktion default ones). I've had some plugins that don't play nicely.

Ah yes... I do remember that I installed the 32 bit version of T5, because my VST plugins are mostly 32 bit.
I do have some 64 bit VSTs, but I don't think I had them installed. (correct me if I am wrong, but i require jbridge in order to use the 64 bit VSTs)

The other thing I forgot to mention was that I was using ZynnAddSubbFX, and a small 'splash screen' said I had to keep the screen open whilst running the synth.I was also unable to close the GUI whilst using T5 - the software informed me that I would have to close the DAW - something I have not encountered with other VSTs (Crystal, VSCO, etc.) - I hope I am explaining this clearly :)

I would like to use T6, but the Tracktion website states that the minimum requirements are Wiindows 7, but with a 2GHz processor. Unfortunatley, my laptop only has a 1GHz processor. Would it be possible to still install T6?

Anyway, from the advice above, I think my best solution would be to completely uninstall T5. Unlike my last attempt, I will completely remove all of the associated files/folders etc. - ie. plugin folders. Then make a complete fresh install of T5.

Thanks for your help.

Get rid of T5, and do a fresh install of T6, it's free now and it's better.

Code: Select all

 DeviceManager.cpp:DeviceManager::initialiseMidi:
This line in the log file usually means that either a MIDI device or driver has crashed or hung. Can you try disconnecting any external gear and relaunching?
