looking for something similar to an mpc sampler, but without the interface. i want a drum brain for triggering stuff, but i wanna trigger my own user defined wav files (like an mpc)
is there anything on the market that can do this in a portable fashion like the mpc?

I'm the happy owner of a Roland SPD6 drumpad and fxpansion DR-008.
Never used a MPC though so I can't compare.

I had an RS7000, and it is far more then a drumsampler (really a whole production studio),
but pretty good also for sampling and resampling and using samples, great midi edit features and easy to use, once you learned it.
or maybe the new mpc 1000? sounded great as I tried it.
or korgs electribe sx-1 is also good as drum sampler.
if you want a vst:
Linplug RMIV perfect
NI Battery also good choice
G-media DR008

The MPC1000 is good as long as you have a decent computer to apply effects to your samples and timestretch them. The MPC1000 has no timestretch and just a few effects (no delay!).
The electribe is good, especially if you buy a SmartMedia-Reader to store your Wav-files.
The ES-1 is very cheap nowadays (about $230) and offers everything you may need for drums.
Another solution might be the Zoom SampleTrak (mine is currently shipping from US to germany
). It has 22 good effects, MPC-like Pads and a useable sequencer. What makes it really good is:
1. you can change the sample length and pitch seperately (different from the MPCs)
2. it is a bargain. Mine was just $160.
