Looks like a lot of the same old stuff.

Post

Only thing I'm happy about is they gave us a GATE back that they stole from us in both Alloy and Ozone, still not worth an upgrade though. Nothing else really looks that enticing for me.

Post

Some interesting things but as others have said it is far too expensive

I've not even used Neutron 1 in a track yet, bought last October.

Funny, I was just thinking the same :) Yet I have used Alloy 2 as its simpler, faster and I think a little lighter on CPU! Neutron looks nice but I just haven't worked it in to my workflow; the pricing and marketing for this (and Ozone) seem to be aimed at the higher/pro end, but the tools they seem to be adding are a bit more EZ mix!
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

The price they're charging for people who already own MPB2 is a damn joke. "Promotional" upgrade pricing? Pffff.

It's the same price as they charged for a MPB2 crossgrade from a "standard" product earlier this year. Thankfully I used some loyaltay cash at PB and price matching for the bundle. I'm mostly using VocalSynth and Nectar 2 PS at this point.

There's no way I'd give them another $300 a few months later for a seemingly minimal update on 2 products in their whole "suite." Wait, 3, because now you get RX6 standard ... something I don't use. Maybe when I get around to experimenting more with Ozone 7 and Neutron Advanced I'll decide if I want to stick around in the iZotope bundle land and continue to pay to play or just cherry pick a couple of the products and bail out. I feel like I'm probably going to make the latter decision.

There are so many good indie developers that have great mixing and mastering tools who give effectively permanent licenses with free upgrades for life after one purchase. I don't know how iZotope thinks people aren't paying attention to those options. Between TDR, Klanghelm, and Sonimus, there are so many affordable tools by good developers who don't constantly price gouge people for minimal improvements.

I'm a fan of iZotope effects and especially Noise Reduction - they innovate, rather than do the same old thing. And there's innovation here too, except.... I'm not convinced it'll be very useful. My main interest is in Neutron 2. The 22 minute video demonstrating the tonal balance thing... it's not just me, right? It made the mix worse of that first song, didn't it? Just really dull, lifeless and boring. Compare their tonally balanced mix with, say, this current cute pop song:

Now THAT's a mix and a master. Lovely rich bottom end, zinging top, loads of space in the mix. The track on the iZotope demo wasn't so bad initially, but they neutered it. Neutered 2'd it, in fact.

Ok, so that's using their modern profile - I could feed Rae Morris into it as a reference and presumably it would then guide me to a different balance more to my liking. That may well be useful - of course vastly more to a mix than these tools, but I can see how it might be a useful guide against ear fatigue and A/Bing with other stuff. But it hardly sells the concept.

As for the visual mixer. Looked like it was going to be a handy spacialisation tool - nope. Then what I want to know is - how does it determine the level of something? Not just gain or fader position, surely, ignoring what the actual source is at literally any conceivable gain? But if not - if it's a true reflection on how loud something is - then wouldn't it need to either check the whole track first, or move dynamically? Which is doesn't? So.... what use it is, exactly?

I have Neutron Advanced and Ozone 7 Advanced. No Neutron upgrades in my account, just the bundles or Ozone. And the bundle - $299. iZotope - I'm a fan of yours, but I'm not that much of a fan.

Well put Guy, lovely track BTW. Who ever was doing the N2 vid made the astonishing announcement that changing the levels of the guitars would change the tonal balance, "so to watch that!!" he said, no shit Sherlock never would have thought that, great piece of info to remember :D. OZ8 Advanced has some cool additions but for 149 not really worth it especially as all the break out plugins are exactly the same except for the Spectral thingy. Badly thought out, as the price seems to be outweighing any positives ATM pity.

I've got Ozone 7 and I think I might have used it like 5 times... There's no way I'm upgrading something I never use and especially when there is nothing new on offer but a few gimmicks.
"People are stupid" Gegard Mousasi.

same feelings here too: waaaaaay too expensive upgrades
and especially for N2 which is introduced less than a year after N1. :dog:

And btw the "reference" plugin sells for 50 BP and does more than
the tonal balance control thingy.

Can someone recommend alternatives for mixing?
The price model of Izotope... i don't have words. Though plugins are good.

Tokyo Dawn Labs for a good dynamic EQ, transparent compressor, and limiter.
Sonimus for some analog flavored EQs, compressors, and channel strips
Toneboosters for a ridiculously cheap, but excellent, "overall" bundle for mixing and mastering

And don't forget stock DAW plugins.

In a sentence or two, I just got Neutron like a month ago. What does N2 have that N1 doesn't have. Worth upgrading?

Post

The upgrade pricing from MPB2 is crazy. I'm hoping very few will jump on the 'introductory' pricing and surely nobody is going to buy the upgrade at full price ... who's betting on a 75% off sale within 6 months?

Post

Good balance between pure mono and wider stereo elements in that track - which I'm guessing no amount of auto-mixing can rectify.
