I used to write for mainframe computers, which was a bit different. lol first of all Reason is not all there is in the universe. if Reason gets slower release after release, take it up with Reason developers, it's not CPU's fault.
second of all, the "sound quality" is objectively better now than it was before. more and better analogue emulations. better scripting in sampled instruments. oversampling, decramping and other methods of improving sound of everyday FX. stuff gets more complicated, hence it uses more CPU.
and finally, i'm running REAPER on a i7-3770K. my computer never got "slow for my DAW" - in fact, i constantly find myself surprised how much of a big deal people make out of plugins' CPU usage. CPU usage of plugins never even enters my radar, never has and might not do so for a long time - and i run tons of FX. i don't know what you guys smoking, but my CPU runs everything perfectly. maybe stop using crap DAW's?
