Greetings!

The essence of 'drummerness'... what is it?
And how to find the perfect backing singer, guitarist and bassist for your wild flights of fancy?

A couple of wonderful, animated and gifted drummers here (the second one is Steve ''The Mad Drummer'' Moore):

Feel free to load up your own examples of talented sticksmen and stickwomen appearing when 'the gig picked the wrong drummer' :hihi:

May not fit perfectly and it's kinda show off with the blindfold but I did find this impressing in a way (regarding speed and accurateness):

Blimey No_Use, that is rather impressive by that fellow.

Excellent technique too. I'd be interested to learn how long he can keep such rapid beats going for without his forearms burning up!
It would be interesting too to learn how he visualizes his playing: to what degree does he rely on, say, the splash/crash cymbal being in his right hemisphere, as opposed to 'seeing' it (even with a blindfold on etc) as part of a whole drumkit.

Post

Be interesting to get the MIDI capture of that (it's an e-Kit) to see what's going on, too.

This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.

That would be cool :D

Good shout Aloysius with Animal. He's so bonkers they even had the doctors take him off the stage one time!

Keith Moon in some make up, a huge plastic drumkit, some interpretive dancers, and fish.

Just a quiet night in for Keith.

Along these lines, I love this drummer's cover of Squarepusher's "A Journey to Reedham":

And yeah, Keith Moon & Ginger Baker are/were on another level, some of their playing makes me crack up every time I hear it for its cheek audacity.

+1 Beyond bonkers, but kind of weird that he felt OK going by the rather dull name "Keith" ?

Found this among his videos, and definitely prefer the full band experience, and cleaner drums :tu:

Great Aphex 'Flim' cover, also

Great stuff, thanks for posting.

Continuing with Jojo Mayer, one of my faves.
(Not the best sound in this one though, too much cymbals.)

I bought an entire JJM dvd just to learn how to play a single handed role on a ride cymbal. I never actually use single handed rolls on ride cymbals, but it was a bucket list item.
You need to limit that rez, bro.

Best Keith Moon story I heard was that he was big mates with actor Larry Hagman and was out drinking with him and said he felt a bit tired and was calling it a night. Before he left Hagman told him not to trash the hotel room he'd booked for him, and not to throw any furniture out of the windows. When Hagman got back much later he went into his room and all the furniture was gone. After a while he realised Moon hadn't smashed it or thrown it out of the window but had spent hours nailing it to the ceiling. :hihi:
