... for the ones who like that core sound. For the ones who don't, not so. I won't resort to any unrealistic hope thinking though... Synapse Audio have been successful with Dune 2, so, there's no need to change the formula too much, and, as you said, "there's absolutely nothing wrong with its core sound anyway", so, why would they change too much about that?Teksonik wrote: There is absolutely nothing wrong with DUNE 2's core sound.
DUNE 2 is out now!!

There he is...I wondered when you would pop into a thread about a synth you just don't like. Perfect way to spend your time......chk071 wrote:fatter, warmer, fuller, and, especially, more punchy).

If you can't get warm or fat out of DUNE 2 it's not the synths fault.....like I said PEBCAK.

I have a killer sound system so no I would not hear him ring. No doubt the second I boot the studio he'll show up so no sense starting until he is gone. If he doesn't show soon I'm going to beat him about the head with DUNE 2.fluffy_little_something wrote:Is your computer somehow tied to your furnace?![]()

Hey maybe that's it....DUNE 2 probably does sound like shyte on the built in speakers of a laptop. It's a shame you can't hear how she sounds here...magnificent.

Interesting argument anyway. If i can do fat, full and warm sounds with several other soft synths, but can't do it with one specific one, then how is it a problem with the tools? Maybe time to think about this, when you have one of your brighter moments.

Looking at this logically, Dune 2 has a sound that the people who bought it like. If sales are significant, and I have to believe they are, then the only things that Dune 3 is going to bring to the table is maybe more filter types, more FX, better quality FX, snappier envelopes, maybe more MSEGs and so on. The core sound isn't going to change.
So if one doesn't like Dune 2, it's a pretty safe bet that they're not going to like Dune 3 either. Same with Zebra 3. I don't think people who don't like the sound of Zebra 2 are going to suddenly fall in love with the sound of Zebra 3 when it comes out.
In fact, how many synths sounded radically different from their previous versions?
Having said that, ANA 2 does sound radically different from ANA 1. In fact, my jaw dropped when I heard ANA 2.
But that's the exception and not the rule.
Don't like Synth XYZ version 1? You're probably not going to like version 10.

I am waiting too, for the first rain in about half a year, it is forecast to start at around 7 to 8pm, i.e. any moment
I don't have laptop speakers, but neither a killer sound system. I don't even think it would make sense to have a killer sound system as, at the end of the day, regular people with their mediocre stereos, iGadgets etc. have to like what they hear.
Do you have a SC or YT page with your 'magnificent' Dune2 sounds? Just curious what kinds of sounds you and others are referring to...

Today I'd be desperate for a Dune 3 - except I have Avenger the fair and beautiful.
So now I'm keeping Dune 2, much like people keep their old Moog
And Dune 3? Try beating Spire's modulation page. Work of art.
Without wishing to sound too obtuse, I thought Dune 1 core sound was brilliant, like a revelation, and Dune 2 maybe not quite quite quite as good, though it grew on me a lot with use, so that now I'd never part.In fact, how many synths sounded radically different from their previous versions?

No, they introduced a different envelope model, which mostly affects the decay on the filter, and not much at all on the amp section.chk071 wrote:...he introduced better sounding envelopes with version 2.5 of Dune, after people complained about the pre-2.5 envelopes
You could of course already do this (and any other shape) in the MSEG section, but it seems most users dont have the tech know how to do this, so they introduced an idiot proof way to keep the moaners happy.

I figure this is bogus then?
Not that i think the MSEG argument would be any valid either... there are synths with linear envelope slope, which are more snappy than the exponential envelopes of other synths. There's more to it. Bülent from KV331 Audio, for example, once mentioned that the Synthmaster envelopes were simply too slow in general to be snappy. And Synthmaster features drawable envelope slopes. (think they "fixed" the slow envelope issue by now though)Richard from Synapse wrote:New Envelopes
The Filter ADSR section in version 2.5 gains an "Analog" switch, which uses a novel circuit-simulated envelope model for the filter and amplitude envelope. The circuit model is based on discrete vintage-analog electronics, and models the envelope with a very high accuracy.
The difference is usually best audible with fast attack times, where it creates a very "snappy" envelope. As an example patch, try the new patch "Precision Trance KS" then turn on/off the analog envelope to hear what it does to the sound.

No, thats quite correct. The attack hasnt changed (zero is zero...) what has changed is the shape of the decay (which incidentally, is not exponetialchk071 wrote:I figure this is bogus then?

How is it a "novel circuit-simulated envelope model" then, if just the slope was adjusted?
Anyway, as i added to my post above, it's not all about the slope. Listen to different synths, and the difference in the envelopes becomes apparent. Or not.
