I'm going to pick up a Midisport 8x8. I notice I can connect to my PC(Win XP Pro)via usb or serial...Is there a preference? Or does it matter?

Post

dunno TBH ... my MIDIsport 4x4 runs fine on USB with all 4 inputs running though ...

I run mine USB... Have had no problems.

I have an 8x8 and it works fine on USB - have had it 3 years under Cubase 5.1 and now Sonar 3.1. Serial is only for old macs i believe.... every PC since win 98 SE can run USB.

USB without a doubt. The serial drivers are flaky to say the least.
A wise purchase!You won't regret it :)

Make sure that whatever you get, get the later revs that allow it to be powered via midi. Mine is older so I have another wal wart to contend with :?

Doesn't USB use more CPU cycles than serial?

Yes, but M-audio / Midiman have really optimized the midisport series. It's like its not even there.
