Did you manage to get your hands on one?

I was lucky enough to get my hands on the DIY kit. Was my first soldering project ever, lots of fun to build.
Now I am just waiting for my recorder (Tascam DR-100 Mk3) to arrive and then I can start recording with it, instead of just listening to it via headphones.

Awesome little mic!

It amazes me what people will pay $100 for.

Put a 22mH inductor in series with a 2.2 Mfd cap, wire the other side of the inductor to ground, the cap to the hot input of a guitar cable, plug in into a guitar amp and you have basically the same thing.

The inductor is the pickup coil. The rest of the circuit is nothing more than a high gain, albeit low noise, audio amp.

I also wonder why there's a GPL, V3 no less, license? There's nothing that can be protected there. Anyone who wants to build and sell them can. Not that it's a new idea in any case.

I picked up the DIY kit for 44 EUR (or something, cant remember the exact amount). And only the buyer can decide whether or not it's worth it.
To me paying 44 EUR for the DIY kit was absolutely worth it, since:
-It was my first ever time doing a DIY project
-It has all the building material
-It has very clear building instructions: http://knowledge.lom.audio/guides/elektrosluchminicity
-It looks awesome

So sure, you could dive into this, and figure out how to build it yourself. But I cant read schematics, and I think Im not an exception. Then you would need to order all the material, and you only get it at a cheap price when you order in bulk (leaving me with a ton of shit I dont need).

And even for the ready-built one, it looks awesome, and there are people who arent interesting in DIY and just want the thing to work, and look nice.

My point was that it's basically two inductors and two capacitors connected to the equivalent of what you already have in your studio, and I doubt that you get much of a stereo field from it, but there's probably some. Point being that you can pretty much do it with just one inductor and one cap plugged into a preamp.

But even after all that, it's just a pickup for noise. Don't get me wrong, I have friends who are way into noise. Hell, I've already got my tickets for the noise festival this year, so, it's not like I can't appreciate that the noise community is interested in different instruments.

...and...

Granted, the little kit looks cute...

...but...

I'm still amazed that people will pay $100 for something that is just a noise pickup.

Anybody still here? Two end-of-level bosses coming up (BF & Xmas).

Who will survive?

Yep. No new synth, fx or hardware so far. (I allowed myself small <$20 updates to existing stuff). My "theory" is that I don't want to learn new tools until I do all I can with the tools I have. For example I want a better orchestral library, but I should first improve my chops....

My head should have listened back then cause now my credit card is literally on fire :D

If I'd list all the purchases here, who am I kidding I'd never remember all those purchases :hihi:

And I'm eyeballing a Analog Rhythm, just like watching Stranger Things it's almost impossible to stop  :D

Had a look at the Luftrum charity, but the things I was interested in aren't anywhere near no-brainer territory anymore. I guess I will wait for the sales season and see if there's anything I want to use my wildcard for.
Good job. Have fun in November :tu:

Lots!
1) a better field recorder
2) 4 specialized microphones
3) orchestral library
4) multiband fx host
5) A/B comparison utility
One will be my wildcard. Not sure yet.
I will eventually get most of them but after I complete my much longer to-do list!
