The truth is AAS don't need anything new, they just sell what they already have - on new markets.

Does this mean that they were working on Tassman 5 for the last year (as reported) and have given up and now we will wait years more for this "new" product that will succeed it?

And yes, this is sad, but it's entirely expected. It was nice to see Tassman kept functional with new OS releases but they weren't doing anything else and much more was needed to make the product actually comfortable to use.

This company has repeatedly shown certain habits that they've never gotten away from, so my hopes weren't high on seeing things change. It's a shame. The sound quality of their products is excellent but their usability always has issues.

Tassman will forever stay in the hall of fame.

Same applies to VAZ Modular.

True. Unfortunate, but very true.

Our friends at Applied Acoustics Systems have today announced Tassman 4 has been depreciated and is no longer available for sale.

the delay w/a filter/resonator in it? yeah.. it's totally new.. nothing like any of the stuff i used tassman for.

I just gave objec-delay a quick spin. It's got a no limitation 15 day demo.
https://www.applied-acoustics.com/objeq-delay/

It seems OK, but I'd rather see them stick to the physical modelling that they know best.
It does have 4 different types of resonator thingies to pick from that I assume are models,
but it's hard to tell how useful overall the delay/filter/resonator would be.
Still have 14 days to find out though.

tried the demo when it was released and basically it's meh for me... there's a half dozen ways to get those sounds in existing plugins and combfilters etc etc..

and of course by using the awesome sounding tassman4 ;)

I own Strum v2, I love that thing, it is not perfect but I use it a lot. I'd love to have an update to that that included creating patterns and progressions internally.

I think AAS shot themselves repeatedly in the foot by a. overpricing everything, and b. selling at crazy steep discounts way too often. This had the effect of devaluing their used plugins in the marketplace here to the point it was stupid to buy their stuff new, thus denying themselves revenue. If they didn't have the relationship with Ableton they likely would have been out of business by now. And it is true, most of their new stuff is just repackaged old stuff that wasn't superior to the old stuff really. The older version of Strum had more key switches to better automate your guitar parts, for example. It is like two steps forward and one step back, if that. I've also owned and sold UA-1 and Lounge Lizard, both of which I loved but found better or free alternatives for and sold when I had empty pockets. I wish them all the best though, they are truly great, kind people that have been more than generous with me personally.

As I noted in the other Tassman thread, I appreciate that they were honest about it (from their FAQ):

"Tassman 4 has been our biggest endeavour, filled with good and bad design decisions but ultimately, we failed to make it evolve."

also from the faq:
Tassman 4 will stop working in the macOS iteration that will be available in two years from now—most likely macOS 10.15
boo on them. that sucks. only 2 years.. so by then it'll be how many years since a real a update? blah.. what a crock. they're dead to me anyways but now they're extra dead. one fewer dev to pay attention to.

Such negativity. AAS has still good products and one of the best customer support in the business imho :D
