i didn't vote, because for me there wasn't a choice. For samples I would be willing to shell out some cash. Especially for drum samples and bass sounds that suit my needs. But I wouldn't pay two bits for any loop disc

Don't you have some sound examples?
Hard to tell what you'd pay for something in case you got no idea of what it might sound like.

Sound examples? Well, I'm thinking if it is worth investing in this.

So I'm trying to get some ideas as to what people think, and believe me I know that the people who don't vote are possibly willing to pay quite some money for a single library if it is done well, so my target really is the people who are not after specific things.

Thank you all for contributing!

If this library is going to happen, you will know about it.

I hope you know that the results of this poll are going to be terribly distorted and inaccurate, because we have no idea what sort of library we are voting on. I know, it's loops along with multisamples, but that's about all I know. There isn't enough information available to decide exactly how desirable the collection would be to me personally, let alone how valuable I think it might be to other people.

I didn't vote the lowest price level, but I might have voted a higher level if I knew some compelling details about the collection that make it seem more desirable. Simply stating that top-notch people created the sounds, using top-notch gear, unfortunately doesn't mean too much. Almost everyone says that, and almost everyone has a different perception of quality or talent. Perhaps if you could mention some specific names of popular and highly regarded people and equipment involved in this project, you might get more interest and higher votes. If there is something unique about your project, you should definitely mention that. If some sort of new technology is involved, if somehow a new level of convenience is achieved, or you can somehow actually prove a noticeable increase in audio quality compared to your competition, be sure to mention it. In fact, shout it from the roof top! Anything positive which is unique to your project will increase its perceived value to the public.

As it is, we are voting blindly on what we assume to be a fairly generic sample set--unless we told otherwise in a convincing manner.

I truly wish you luck with the project.

Thank you for taking the time to remind me of the flaws of this poll.

However, due to business strategy and competition I can not disclose any information on the producers involved or the technologies used.

And I do know that this is just a preliminary thing and there may be an official survey sometime soon.

But market research always involves starting somewhere.

Again, thanks to all of you for the comments and ideas.

Mate, i think all you need to know is the best stuff (given half a chance) invariably floats to the top. If your library comprises of top quality, unique and inspiring sample content, then there is no reason why it shouldn't sell for the same as its competition. I think its very easy for developers sometimes get too tied up in the business side of things. You should remember that your prime objective in suceeding is to create a library that is as good or better than others on the market. For example, if i wanted to release a loops CD, I'd find the closest existing library and work day and night to better it, aswell as adding my own unique features. This is how you should look at the task at hand. What is you competition? What are their pros and cons? How can you improve upon them? What can you do thats different and sets your product apart? How can you add perceived value to you product? These are the real questions you need answering, and 99% of the answers should all be present on this forum. Price is pretty insignificant at this stage, since you are yet able to gauge the perceived value of the product! When you can estimate how popular your product will be (via survey) in relation to its competition, THEN you can start thinking about pricing. There really is no use asking us regarding the pricing of your product. Most of us would prefer to pay nothing and get everything for free! Its your job to create a product which is good enough for us to want to part with YOUR asking price. Atmosphere imo is a great product - I feel that the library offers value greater than asking price. This is what you're aiming to achieve if you want to succeed.

Wow, sorry for the 'marketing mix' spiel! Just trying to provide you with the benefit of my knowledge (which could be considered questionable in itself :D ). I wish you the best of luck!

I print this post out and stick next to my monitor (the one for the eyes)

If you guys don't mind I may (...) contact you via this board for evaluation of the first couple of examples if that is OK with you?

Thanks again
