SX 2 to SX 3 upgrade price is unfair !!!!

I paid £99 to upgrade from SX 1 to SX 2 and now it's
another £99 to upgrade from SX 2 to SX 3 , that means
it would cost me £198 to get from SX 1 to SX 3 :(
but those that upgrade from SX 1 to SX 3 only pay £99 and get all the features I paid to beta test in
SX 2 for free :?

I see this as another poke in the eye from Steinberg
to it's loyal vanguard customers :x

I just don't see the logic when before they always
had different prices to upgrade from different versions .

If they charged £49 to upgrade from SX 2 to SX 3
and passed the £50 on to those upgrading from SX 1
to SX 3 so they paid £149 , they would still get
all the features of the SX 2 upgrade for half the
price previous upgraders had to pay

I am not sure now if I will upgrade @ the current price , if I wait 12 months for SX 4 I will get
the features of SX for free if Steinberg follow
through with the same upgrade pricing that they have
now :P

so, half of £198 is £149? :? There seems to be some calculations that went wrong along the way.

I'm still on SX 1 :D but am actually considering getting SE instead, and getting quality plug ins instead. Poor mans choice

 No wrong calculations just a misinterpretaion
of by you of what I wrote :P .........

Put simply those upgrading from SX 1 to SX 3 pay
£50 for the SX 2 features previous upgraders paid
£99 for plus £99 for the SX 3 features the same
as those upgrading from SX 2 .

I was also initially pissed off, but there is one thing,

we have had the use of SX2.

Yes! Exactly!

Customers using very old versions of software are probably considered "lost customers" who have potential to continue the upgrade path, with a little motivation. A price break for the upgrade might be enough to get them back on board. It's not right for "beta testers" who've been on board all along, but...

all these uprade pricing issues are on weak grounds - from both vendor and customer pow.

I'm much more interested in whether sx3.x will some day be available as true 64bit compiled app, because I as well as others will eventually have to make their decision regarding hw upgrade - and marketing style info isn't quite in lines of exact decision making (do it now, what to do, wait a bit ... ?)

well I've already placed my update order on friday so I will have one thing LESS to care about. I may be able to compensate for this expense on other things. believe it or not, I rather have this in a box somewhere at hand for a while even if I won't install it immediatelly due hw issues. I doubt there would be significant drop in pricing in near future ??? so any waiting would pay ?

I think it is about time for everyone to finally realize that what you pay for software in the ever ongoing update/upgrade process is more like a lending fee or let's better say leasing rate.
You have used SX2 for quite some time, while the SX1 customer has not used it at all. Get the idea?
Ableton did the same, Emagic did something quite the same recently, and it makes perfect sense. In both cases I was one of those to bite the bullet, as I had updated recently before - yet I was happy that I have used the previous version.

Get used to it, it's about how it will work in the future!

Agreed to some extent Good Dr, but I still think there should be a price gradient for each paid upgrade level. It's not fair to essentially charge some users more because they choose to keep current on the upgrade path (and by doing so, keep money flowing into your pocket as a developer), and give the slackers a price break!!!

And most dramatically - what about users like me who just bought the SX2 upgrade (It arrived last week) and now have to shell out another $149 to get to SX3?

It pisses me off that I could've (had the fates been my friends) had SX3 for the SAME price - I feel like I just flushed 149 bucks down the toilet! :x  :x

They have no grace period?

Now that's really missing a part of the concept!

Earthtones:

I've read that people who got SX 2 after April can get the upgrade for £9.99 (less than $20 I would presume).
I would think that includes upgrades as well. You might wanna check up on that.
