Without looking through the 68 pages of this thread, can you say why these are considered beta?
Linux itself is a perpetual beta, not necessarily from a quality assurance
or stability perspective, but from the constant motion of the kernel,
the gui toolkits, the C libraries, and the outcomes of various power plays.

This requires software devs to plant foundations on sandbanks,
and hope the tides are favourable, knowing that storms are seasonal,
in the best case scenario. Fortunately, a lot of what is under the hood
of a debian system, has a cousin in rpm based systems, and package-building
systems like Arch and Slackware, so a linux based musician never has far
to travel to reach success.
This completely depends on what distro you are using! It's not true that "Linux itself is a perpetual beta", try Red Hat Enterprise Linux or Centos, or even a LTS Ubuntu.

The problem has been fragmentation and having to support many different desktops, that is becoming less of a problem now Ubuntu is switching to Gnome and Wayland will become the new standard for display.

In regards to these issues with the U-He GUIs on later Ubuntu versions, I believe a core point here is that other 3rd party VSTs still work, unmodified, in these new versions of the libraries. I can't stress this enough.

So to use Glowcraws example of building a foundation on a sandbank, it seems the other vendors haven't. And that leads to a very valid question if not these ports should be using the system library APIs in a different manner.

Beamboom no doubt the X11 problem with U-HE plugins is a kind of silly bug, hopefully it gets resolved soon.

Post

I found a video on YouTube from u-he with the name "introduction to Hive". Some kind of tutorial video.

He was able to drag an drop presets within the preset browser but I can't do this?
I always have to move the presets in my OS file browser.

Post

hihu,
One of the big developments coming here is the new preset browser. Which likely means a lot of these issues (like drag-n-drop, the 'hidden/missing preset save dialog' issue, other implication for Linux users, etc.) will be affected.--How exactly? We shall see. Maybe all of the above will be solved and we'll be pleasantly surprised, or none.

Post

thx for your reply lunardigs. I have already read somewhere that there will be a new preset browser. Hopefully they will integrate some kind of search engine and tagging.

But I never had the feeling that dragging presets was working. I'm using the Linux builds since the very first version.

I have no problem with the saving of presets but I do have problems when using the protoverb. I cannot enter values there.

Hope the problems can be solved with the new preset browser.

Any of you guys gotten to test the u-he plugins on Ubuntu 17.10 yet? If the pulldown menus are back?

Post

The Repro-Link in the first post points to the wrong plugin. This is the old alpha version/tech demo (without the -1). It still works and it's great to see how much the plugin has evolved since then but the real link to Repro-1 can be found on the u-he site.

Post

There is also a newer Diva version in the Diva thread.

Oh man thanks alot for pointing this out! Haha - now that was QUITE the difference indeed!

Seems Alex needs to get back here and show us some Linux love again.

Remember to fill out the survey which is going on right now and show your love and the needs of the Linux version:)

Hey, can you tell me where the survey is? Perhaps I'm blind .... Thanks!
