They're really dropping the ball to try to market a $200-800 card. More intelligent would have been to develop the algo and some plugins so that existing nVidia owners could use it by buying just the software.

Greg
isn't that what is actualy going on? you just buy the sotware and use it on your existing graphics card? (as long as it is nvidia fx series or 6800)...if not then i have misunderstood this whole thread :?
That's what I was thinking all along, too. But then in recent pages, people have been talking about marketing a card bundle a la UAD-1.

f**ked if I know what the story is anymore.

;)

Greg
No. You're correct. I was just speculating that a card bundle might be in the pipeline.

They also mentioned ATI as well which I imagine shares a similar DSP chip.

You must be joking? oh, you mean pentum 1 100mhz with 16mb sdram, 1 gig hdd, 8xcdROM and 15inch curved crt. :D

UAD-1 here : £399

The Athlon XP2500 based system, I just specced with 512Mb memory, and an 80Gb drive : £310

As is normal, its the software, not the hardware, which determines which would be more useful to a given muso...

pc's are much cheaper your side of the world then that's for sure. although that is a rather basic setup with no frills.
actually.. the difference is ame here ttoz. You can get that system above for 300usd. uad-1 project pack is 399... studio is 899$... Decent 6800 is 450-500$...

310 - 80 (your xp license) = 230 left

so you can get a case, powersupply, motherboard, cpu, memory, hard drive, and an optical drive for only 230 pounds?

thats assuming that the video and ethernet are onboard..

ttoz wrote:it's a shame these are nvidia only. that card i linked to a few pages ago had over 200 gigaflops or 5 times a modern geforce fx, for only 2.5 times the price, and still a third of what powercore and uad sell for here.
No shit..I just sold a $300 Nvidia card like 1 week before this was brought up

sure :-)

here in Germany it's e.g. :

Barton XP2500+ - 87.90

cooler - 11,90

case with 350watts
power-supply - 29,90

mainboard Elitegroup
with kt333 - 31,90

512mb ram
(Kingston) - 79,90

80gigs 7200 HD
(e.g. Hitachi) - 59.90

64mb Radeon 9200se
(Elitegroup) - 39,90

That's 341,30 Euros or 232,05 british pounds or 415,53$

All good stuff, no graphics onboard and you could spend a lot less of course if you'd go with the cheap stuff. I don't understand what you mean with the optical drive though :?

I'm not so much concerned about or running lots of 'vintage' compressors. I would only be interested in either a dedicated audio DSP card (or expensive software to use GPU for same) if it provided a good, programmable / modular approach ala Reaktor, for example. Not necessarily with particularly many channels of I/O, either (although that would be nice in certain situations).

More of a monster synth / sampler / DSP mangling type approach... I'm sure there are plenty more computer musicians who feel the same.

man, Im just dreaming about a realtime paint to audio prog ala Atmogen, only any paint prog could be used with the BionicX layer or whatever its called doing the conversions :smack:

Ok Ill just f**k off for another couple of weeks

Like you twats actually know what you are talking about...oh, i must get a new graphix card...its so good for my VTS's....

f**k right off

I will keep reading this and try to answer some of the questions in a Q&A on the website in a couple weeks. Thanks a lot for the questions and comments. We are working hard to deliver effects that will knock your socks off. BionicFX!

Hi JamesOne,

I would like to know which video cards will be supported, and what difference in processing power one should expect among the various supported cards. I would be especially interested to know if any ATI cards will be supported, either now or in the near future.

thanks,

Yup.
