I love this synth but I'm getting loads of freezing and crashing in Ableton, Windows 7. I've let Dmitry know and have simply come here to vent/share the news

Did you update to v1.03? That fixed an issue with editing of osc wavetables.

I'm not having a go at you here ok, if you're gonna vent and share constructively, with the aim of solving the problem, best to include as many details and system specs as possible. Some other user here might have the same issues, can identify or be able to help in some way.zarf wrote:I love this synth but I'm getting loads of freezing and crashing in Ableton, Windows 7. Fair enough, taken in the spirit offered, and thank you for the advicesqigls wrote: I'm not having a go at you here ok, if you're gonna vent and share constructively, with the aim of solving the problem, best to include as many details and system specs as possible. But by all means I could have mis-judged that
Windows 7 64 bit, 16gigs ram, Sandybridge i5, running Ableton 9.7.3 32 bit, 32 bit VST version of Thorn. USB scarlet 18i20 interface running at 48k. When i move the 'pos' dial for oscilator 1, or edit the harmonics, I've had about 15 crashes at random times, sometimes almost immediately, sometimes after a while. I'm not sure what other details to include, and also, I'm still a little concerned about overloading the OSC thread with lots of details most everyone wouldn't be interested in

Hey zarf! I'm having the same problem as you, and my specs are pretty close to yours as well. Except, I'm using Windows 10 64bit, Reaper 32bit, and a Scarlett 6i6 (@ 48k) Haven't had time yet, but I was gonna try going 64bit Reaper/Thorn, and also try bypassing the Focusrite. Maybe tonight...

Adjusting optimal DAW buffer/latency is essential when using the Thorn, try different settings. In addition: I got some extra resources by optimizing the Win 10 64 bit, you can find different setup-options from net.

Steeling notes ?!?!?
I found a severe problem when playing in poly mode. Thorn is steeling notes, even when the key is still pressed
Example: the default voice number is 4. Hold one bass note and play a monophonic melody with the other hand. Playing the 5th note mutes the bass note. But I never play more than two keys! I found a parameter in the setting called optimize polyphony. Unfortunately this does not help.
Any ideas how to prevent this behavior? This makes this Synth quite unusable for playing with both hand.

yeah going back and forth between Thorn threads, might be better to shift the specs to the other thread for discussion, but at least you've let Dmitry knowzarf wrote:Hi NedK that is interesting, thanks, might try something similar here too, good thinking...
@sqigls - you were right about sharing the details, thanks again!
i hope it gets solved for you soon!... a Scarlett issue ? hmmmm, the life of a dev must be a real bald-spot.
i've been pretty lucky with the 64bit vst on OSX. No stability issues to speak of whatsoever. I use RME though [shines fingernails on shirt and takes another liberal sip of Dom Perignon]

The quick & crude way would be to duplicate the track with the same preset and play both at the same time, but of course this is far from optimal and doesn't really address the issue!photonic wrote:Any ideas how to prevent this behavior? But ... it seems to work fine for me? Is it a long release pushing the voices over what you have set it to? Have you tried adding voices and / or lowering release time?

Thanks! Yeah, I know I know. Should have bought RME. I just wanted to eat as wellsqigls wrote: i hope it gets solved for you soon!... a Scarlett issue ? hmmmm, the life of a dev must be a real bald-spot.

Though, I'll be surprised if it ends up being the interface... I was all ready to jump on blaming ableton if it weren't for NedK's comment...

No issues here with Windows 10, Scarlett & Bitwig, so probably not a Scarlett issue.

I tried it with 8 voices and it was the same problem after reaching the 9th note. And I am not talking about release phase. I still hold the low note key so the sound is in it's sustain phase. And it should sound as long as I hold the key!zarf wrote:The quick & crude way would be to duplicate the track with the same preset and play both at the same time, but of course this is far from optimal and doesn't really address the issue!photonic wrote:Any ideas how to prevent this behavior?
