So Synthmaker isn't dead after all? Hmm...
The post above this is likely bait, viewer discretion is advised.

Not directly from the Devs, just someone claiming they were told this.

Yeah, I'll wait until it actually happens before I decide if the update is worth doing or not.VariKusBrainZ wrote:Not directly from the Devs, just someone claiming they were told this.

"NOTE though, it is still in it's early stage and will require lots of Alpha and Beta testing, plus a new manual. So PLEASE be patient!"
So, sometime in 2019? 2020? Well, long awaited, much longed-for..

Yeah, those guys have a history of not being particularly responsive. To me, the product has seem unfocused for years now and it lost a lot of its value to me when they closed down the forums and didn't migrate over the old posts.starflakeprj wrote:"NOTE though, it is still in it's early stage and will require lots of Alpha and Beta testing, plus a new manual. Honestly I'm not sure that I'll even bother upgrading. I think that there is a niche that's unfilled here but a product today must generate 32/64, or frankly, just 64 bit Windows plugins as well as generate Mac plugins. The vendor that solves this cleanly will take home most of the pie. The vendors that seem to do data-flow programming environments well,e.g. Cycling 74, NI, don't seem interested.

They're doing themselves a disservice by spreading the word there will be a 64-bit version, especially when asking people to be patient. They would be better off by not mentioning anything at all, because if the new version is not released withing the coming year, people will really get annoyed.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but SynthEdit currently has mature 32-bit support (Windows VST2), 64-bit (Windows VST3) support in beta, and Mac (Audio Unit) support in Alpha.ghettosynth wrote:I think that there is a niche that's unfilled here but a product today must generate 32/64, or frankly, just 64 bit Windows plugins as well as generate Mac plugins. Yes, I know that you've been taking this seriously for some time and I like the direction that you're going. I haven't been following along lately for various reasons, but, have you brought VST hosting support into 64 bit yet? Are their plans to do that?

I've held off on this feature because some people used it to put other peoples VSTs inside their VSTs. i.e. "child VSTs". For example, someone might make a synth and put someone elses VST Reverb inside it. This is an ethically dubious thing to do IMHO. It's also very difficult to distribute such a hybrid because you have to install the child plugin as well as the "parent" plugin independently (and different people have different folders they like to put plugins in), it's quite a nightmare to support that scenario, especially with novice users.ghettosynth wrote:have you brought VST hosting support into 64 bit yet? However, it is very useful to have VSTs in SynthEdit. Rather than making it a built-in feature though I might just make a "bridge" plugin to do that. I'll make it open-source so others can contribute to it.
Currently, though I am concentrating on getting 64-bit and Mac stable and usable. It's been a huge amount of work, months upon months, but there is light at the end of the tunnel now.

You know, it didn't even occur to me that people would try to distribute those publically with other people's plugins inside. That said, for me, distribution is not the reason that I would want the feature. I used it quite a bit in 32 bit Synthedit to (quickly) create meta-plugins for my own use. I still haven't found a good replacement TBH.Jeff McClintock wrote:I've held off on this feature because some people used it to put other peoples VSTs inside their VSTs. i.e. "child VSTs". Good idea, can I suggest creating a github repo, put in whatever code you have and state the idea to see if people pick up the challenge and help you out with it?However, it is very useful to have VSTs in SynthEdit. Awesome! Looking forward to the mac version moving out of alpha. I'll take a look at it again shortly to see where things are with respect to the last time I looked.Currently, though I am concentrating on getting 64-bit and Mac stable and usable. Without wanting to sound flippant, did they ever sort out the 'green' timing issues? That's what kind of killed synthmaker for me; it should have been dead simple to knock up generative sequencer-like things etc but the timing was always slave to windows interrupts and was all over the place. I know you can kludge it using audio paths instead but was always fiddly and, well, just seemed a missed opportunity.

Good question, I don't know. I lost interest shortly after the transition to FlowStone. I think I paid for one update and then let it lapse.
